Airbnb Announces Epic Around the World in 80 Days Adventure for Just $5,000

Sebastien Gabriel

If you’ve ever daydreamed of traveling in the footsteps of Phileas Fogg, you could get your wish this September. This month, Airbnb announced an exclusive, once-in-a-lifetime adventure dubbed Around the World in 80 Days. It’s every bit as epic as Jules Verne’s classic novel of the same name.

Like its namesake book, the Around the World in 80 Days journey will begin and end in London, England. In between, four lucky travelers will circumnavigate the globe for 12 weeks. The trip will cover 18 countries, six continents, five seas, two oceans, and diverse modes of transportation, including, naturally, a hot air balloon ride. It also promises some of the most bucket-list-worthy experiences along the way. Highlights include traveling in the steps of Silk Road traders in Uzbekistan, trekking on an African safari in Kenya, finding yourself in the Himalayas, sleeping under the stars in the Australian outback, snorkeling in the Galapagos, and glacier hiking in Patagonia. The list goes on and on.

Tickets go on sale Friday, June 28, 2019, at 1 p.m. ET. At just $5,000 per ticket — including all accommodations, transportation (excluding airfare to and from London), meals, and non-alcoholic drinks — we expect this will sell out very, very fast.

Airbnb has come a long way since its early days of helping budget travelers find a stranger’s couch to crash on during their next vacation. From remote treehouses to beachside Airstream travel trailers to an Idaho potato (yes, really), its list of accommodations in more than 1,000 cities now ranks among the most interesting in the world. The brand expanded in 2017 with Airbnb Experiences as a way to offer travelers unique and exciting experiences led by actual locals. This epic, 80-day excursion marks its next expansion as the company rolls out Airbnb Adventures.

Like its catalog of accommodations, Airbnb’s Adventures will include an array of unique and amazing travel experiences. Prices for the more than 200 different tours start at just $79 and are available in 40 countries; most are exclusive to Airbnb. Every tour looks more amazing than the last: Hiking with warriors to a sacred Kenyan peak, camping on a cliffside in Colorado, riding horseback for ten days across Mongolia, and hunting ghosts and UFOs in the American Southwest.

Only four spots will be available for the Around the World in 80 Days trip. Tickets go on sale Friday, June 28, 2019, at 1 p.m. ET. At just $5,000 per ticket — including all accommodations, transportation (excluding airfare to and from London), meals, and non-alcoholic drinks — we expect this will sell out very, very fast.
