Tracksmith’s ‘No Days Off’ Line Makes Running in Winter Warm

We usually hate running in winter, but the independent core running brand out of Boston, Tracksmith, has released a 2019 ‘No Days Off’ collection of cold-weather apparel that suddenly has us lacing up at 4am and sprinting to the icy trails. Yes, we’ve become that ridiculous Portland couple who went viral for running (and falling) in the snow.

The No Days Off line by Tracksmith is a Merino-driven collection created in collaboration with The Woolmark Company out of Australia and includes a jacket, vest, waffle base layer, mittens, socks, and a cap (for both men and women… hello, Valentine’s Day gift for her!)

More than a pile of ridiculously amazing running clothes, No Days Off is an annual bat signal cast out by Tracksmith for “consistency, moderation, and patience,” toward the “full-time, year-round commitment to the process” of running. It’s not just for beginning runners, but the core group who eat almond butter by the spoonful and worship at the ‘“Church of the Long Run” (the ritual of doing your longest run on Sunday which encourages an almost spiritual reflection).

The idea behind the campaign isn’t to be flashy or glamorous. No Days Off is about effort, and loving the pain, pleasure, and power of running.

Thanks to Woolmark’s Merino wool fibers that dominate the collection, No Day Off apparel kicks traditional running clothes’ ass in terms of being temperature regulating, moisture-wicking, quick-drying, and, best of all, super odor resistant. Seriously, you won’t have to wash these pieces for weeks at a time.

Tracksmith ran these new turtlenecks, vests, waffle layers, caps, mittens, and tube socks into the snowy tundra of sub-20 degree Vermont during a Tracksmith training camp and documented the process in an awesome video featuring runners Rafa Oliveira and Kamilah Journet. (That’s right, performance tube socks.)

Who else feels like running in the freezing cold after watching that film?

Since Tracksmith is still somewhat an underground brand, you’ll be joining the ranks of legit runners who are in on the secret. Silently flex your street cred and when someone asks about the rabbit logo just smile and outrun them.

The No Days Off (NDO) collection, made available on January 8, ranges in price between $38-$198 with a variety of running apparel staples. Each piece easily works as a cold-weather lifestyle piece as well.

The 7 Best Tips for Running in Cold Weather
Man running on a cold day on a road running through the mountains

The lower the temperature plummets in the winter months, the fewer runners you'll see out on the roads or weaving around the trails. Thousands of runners will forgo running on frigid cement streets and frozen backwoods paths for climate-controlled gyms with Wi-Fi enabled treadmills.

The runners still putting in the miles outdoors seem like a rare breed, but any runner, regardless of skill level, can put in the miles outside even when the temps drop into the teens.

Tips and Gear Recommendations for Night Running in 2022
Tips and Gear for Running at Night

If you can squeeze in a workout while the sun is still shining, congratulations, you're a time management pro. If you stay late at the office or spend what little time you have outside of work fulfilling personal and social obligations to friends and family, though, you’re not alone. Many people have taken up night running out of pure necessity because a workout at night is better than no workout at all.

Sure, you could always pick up a new treadmill for running, but the other option is to face the darkness head-on. Nighttime running isn't all bad. Night runners take advantage of the cooler temperatures to maintain their fitness levels without getting drained by the changing temperature. However, you should exercise caution when running at night, as the darkness makes it harder for cars or bicycles to see you. These are our top tips and gear picks for getting through your early morning or evening runs in one piece.
Stay Illuminated
Running with a headlamp can feel bulky and even painful. They either bounce around too much or are so tight they leave a dent in your head afterward. But they can be a real life-saver on night runs to illuminate your path and alert cars when you're in their path.

The 4 Best Running Jackets in 2022, From Waterproof to Breathable
Best Running Jackets

Running with a jacket on is quite difficult, no matter how well you think your gear is equipped for the demands of the great outdoors. On the one hand, you want to be protected from the rain, snow, and hail. On the other hand, you’re sweating cats and dogs and need that moisture to vent. That's where the best jackets for running come into play. Gear makers are trying hard to make jackets both waterproof and breathable at the same time, but most jackets fall toward one end or the other.
