If you’re into the big guns of contemporary art, head to Moderna Museet. This vast gallery was the first in Sweden to break the works of Warhol and holds an impressive selection of heavyweight works today.

If you’d prefer to see something a little more ‘real’, The Manual recommends Candyland. Located in Södermalm, home to many local artists and initiatives, this independent gallery exhibits abstract works from exciting international artists.

Also, don’t miss Nitty Gritty on Krukmakargatan. This clinically curated boutique has been a longstanding favourite for quality menswear in Stockholm. Brands include Levi’s Vintage, Stone Island and Engineered Garments.

EAT & DRINK

Located within concept store and art space Snickerbacken 7, Kaffeverket is loved by locals and visiting foodies for its infamous open sandwiches served on rye. We recommend the prawn and horseradish mayo with an unexpected edition of a boiled egg (to die for, FYI).

For a dinner to remember, check out Gastrologik. This classy eatery is best known for the unbeatable beef they serve- interestingly, the preference is for older female cows, selected, slaughtered and butchered by meat maniac Christian Bauer in Älmhult. Owners Jacob and Anton are super particular about their produce, and the proof is in the pudding.

Some say Akkurat in Hornsgatan is one of the finest malt bars in the world. We aren’t prepared to argue with that. Cotch at the bar with the locals or grab a table with your fellow travellers and sample some of the awesome malts and home brews. A pint of Cantillon Kriek brew is our personal favorite…

At the Story Hotel Signalfabriken. A haven for the hip, this centrally located hotel boasts 83 rooms, each with the necessary ‘design hotel’ credentials. Our favourite highlights include the raindrop showers, inclusive breakfast buffet and no complications constant WiFi. The bar an restaurant on the ground floor are good enough to visit regardless of a reservation.
