From the Red Carpet to Mission Trips, Mark Steines is One of Hollywood’s Busiest Men

Emmy Award-winning journalist Mark Steines hosts Hallmark Channel’s Emmy-nominated “Home & Family.” Along with his co-host Debbie Matenopoulos, Steines entertains and informs their audience daily with an array of entertaining and relevant lifestyle topics, such as do-it-yourself projects, cooking, celebrities, and experts.  In 2017, Steines and Leeza Gibbons took over as KTLA’s hosts of the 128th Rose Parade.

From small town Iowa to the red carpets of Hollywood, Steines, a three-time  Emmy winner has established himself as one of the most trusted and charismatic figures in entertainment news.  Since landing in Hollywood, he has interviewed thousands of A-list actors, producers, musicians, and athletes.

Prior to joining “Home & Family,” Steines helped set the gold standard in entertainment news while working at “Entertainment Tonight” for more than 17 years.  He co-hosted with Mary Hart for eight of those years and before that was the weekend anchor and was a leading entertainment reporter for nine years.

Steines receives rave reviews as a photographer. His appreciation for all things beautiful is captured in his portraits and majestic landscapes. His photo book “See The Light: A Passage To Sierra Leone,” documents the Light House Medical Mission’s trip to raise awareness for fresh water in impoverished countries. Other professional photography assignments have included shooting more than 30 celebrities for Boot Campaign patriotic image campaign, and editorial work for Focus Magazine, Groomer to Groomer Magazine, Paper Magazine, Life After 50, among others.

Born and raised in Dubuque, Iowa, he attended the University of Northern Iowa on a full football scholarship and graduated with a degree in Radio and Television. Steines began his broadcast career as a regional television sports reporter, which later brought him to Los Angeles and national television.

An avid hands-on do-it-yourself guy, Steines enjoys spending his free time fixing, remodeling and restoring all things in disrepair.  He resides in Los Angeles, California with his wife, acclaimed children’s book author, Julie Steines, his two sons, their golden retriever Fred and Norbert, their 3lb. therapy dog, philanthropist and social media influencer.

As he told us:

The theme of my life is storytelling. On the set of my show ‘Home & Family‘ I get the privilege of interviewing actors, musicians, chefs, experts in their field, amazing everyday people who have accomplished great things or people who have overcome incredible challenges and help them share their stories with our audience. After work and on the weekend, I pick up my camera and continue to tell stories through capturing moments. Moments of my family and friends, moments of something incredible and moments of something simple – all captured stories that will live forever in pictures.

As for my personal style:

Jeans:
Paige , AG , Joe’s

I love jeans that have stretch. My trick is, I buy jeans a size bigger and then take in the waist to accommodate my muscular legs. And these brands are great for my body type! Recently, I cleaned my closet and found several pairs of Paige jeans that fit my eldest son – he is enjoying wearing designer jeans to school.

Shirts:
Ted Baker, Hugo Boss

Ted Baker has such fun prints and fits off the rack. Hugo Boss is always classic.

Pants:   Ted Baker, Hugo Boss, and Canali

I prefer to wear a great pair of jeans, but if I have to wear dress pants Ted Baker, Hugo Boss, and Canali work the best for me. They are classic, straight leg cuts.

Suits:  Hugo Boss, Ted Baker, Canali

For suits, I love classic, with a little pop. Either a fun lapel flower or pocket square, I love The Tie Bar for that.

Shoes:  UggCole Haan, and Ted Baker

WHY? Ugg I wear in my personal life, they are comfortable and easy to throw on and go. For dress-up and work, Cole Haan makes a great shoe, and Ted Baker always has a fun new style to try where they take classic and add some color, which I like.

Accessories:  Apple Watch & Neil Lane Wedding Band

I love gadgets. My Apple Watch consistently gives me information all day long. I get tired of looking at my phone, with one quick turn of the wrist I am up to date with the news around me. Also, when messages come in, it allows me to know when and if I need to take action on if something pretty quickly.

My Neil Lane wedding band is a simple band that is perfect in weight and comfort fit. My dad had a simple band. He was a working man and worked for John Deer in Iowa. My ring reminds me of a simple happy life of a man with a wonderful wife as a partner. It is a wedding band of a working man’s hand. I have never taken it off since the day my beautiful wife put it on my finger.

Outerwear:  Lululemon clothing

Because I am always on the go, I need to wear clothing that is comfortable and nonrestrictive. Lululemon is a perfect brand. It feels like athletic wear, but looks clean, holds its shape and never wrinkles.

Favorite Cologne:  Calvin Klein Obsession & Giorgio Armani Acqua Di Gio

I tend to go old school with Calvin Klein Obsession, however, Armani’s Acqua Di Gio has a positive effect on my wife. More times than not, Armani’s Acqua Di Gio gets me to where I am going in the romance department.

Favorite App:  Instagram

Instagram is the best platform that showcases what I personally do best — sharing storytelling through imagery.

Favorite piece of technology:
Wacom Tablet & Lightroom

The Wacom tablet allows me to have precision and speed in my everyday life.

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom is a fantastic piece of technology for organizing and manipulating and ultimately sharing imagery.

Next purchase: Roto Lights for photo shoots

Roto Lights are the best photography lights. The versatility allows me to accomplish so many different options while shooting. They are a continuous light source, strobe and with their color options, you never need to change gels.  They are also battery operated so you aren’t dealing with having cords all over the place. Their prices have been becoming even more affordable for photographers.

Smell your best with these great fragrances
A person spraying cologne on themselves.

You only get one chance to make a great first impression. That is why we dress nicely. That is why we groom ourselves expertly. And that is why you need to have a great cologne. You never know who you are going to meet, and you don't want to be caught in anything other than your best. You may be forgiven if your hair is a little long when you are on the trail. You may be forgiven for having a five o'clock shadow on Saturday afternoon. And you may not be punished for wearing jeans and a T-shirt at the movie theater. However, you will always be judged for not smelling good. That is why you need to invest in the best men's colognes.

Having a pleasant fragrance is more than smelling pleasant for those around you. It also attracts people to you and shows that you care about your hygiene. People will respond better and remember you fondly if your smell lingers. It is the most powerful scent tied to memory, so make sure you are remembered in 2024 with these top picks for colognes for men. We didn't go with all the big boys in the men's cologne industry. You will see one name that nearly everyone knows. But, we stuck more with the ones that you all should know. There is no Dior, no Polo, and no Gucci on this list. We didn't go for names. We went for quality fragrances and picks that will keep you remembered long after you leave.

Rolex’s latest white gold cosmograph Daytonas feature mother-of-pearl dials
Rolex adds new Cosmograph Daytona watches
Rolex Cosmograph Daytona

Rolex has introduced a new, super-expensive watch covered in diamonds. What's new? Well, while we're used to this, and it doesn't exactly warrant front-page news, this introduction actually does. This new chapter for the brand unveils two new additions to the Rolex Daytona collection, and they're certainly more opulent in a subtle way compared to previous designs.
Rolex Daytona: Two new Rolex Cosmograph Daytona watches added to the collection

These new Rolex watches, which are part of the Cosmograph Daytona collection, are diamond-set models adorned with mother-of-pearl dials. Hearing about any Rolex watch covered in diamonds automatically evokes fantasies of extravagance and wealth, at least it does for us, but these new timepieces are remarkably restrained when it comes to a balance between bling and subtlety.
