We are officially in the dog days of summer and it’s hard to stay cool. Depending on where you live, you can’t go to the beach everyday; and it’s hard to fit in pool time when you’re clocking in long hours at the office. Knocking back a few beers is tough, especially when your favorite pilsner or pale ale gets warm after just a few minutes. A cold cocktail works; that is until the ice melts and you’re left with liquor-water (not that we’d turn our noses up at that).

But we’ve got a summertime solution for you. It’s a drink that mixes two classic heat solutions: ice cream and getting drunk so you don’t notice that you’re sweating. That’s right, it’s the alcoholic milkshake! And we’ve got two recipes that’ll quickly become seasonal favorites.

Ted’s Montana Grill, the All-American restaurant chain founded by Ted Turner, has shared two of their brand-new alcoholic milkshake recipes. Ted’s may be best known for their bison dishes—as well as their preservation of bison herds all over America—but these hand-crafted recipes are made to satisfy not only your sweet tooth, but also to hit you with an excellent summer buzz. And they’re easy to make at home.

For those that prefer fruit, the Boozy Berry is made with Häagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream, fresh-squeezed lemonade, Tito’s Vodka, Grand Marnier, wildberry puree and whipped cream to top. And for the traditionalist, there is the The Slide, Ted’s Montana’s take on the Mudslide. This milkshake features Häagen-Daz vanilla ice cream, half & half, Kahlua, Absolut vodka, Bailey’s Irish Cream, Hershey’s syrup, and whipped cream.

Either way, you can’t go wrong. So stay cool by either trying the real thing at Ted’s Montana or giving these recipes a shot the next time you have friends over.

Far older than you think: A beginner’s guide to Mexican wine
Mexico has a great unsung wine scene
White wine glass tip

Wine has been produced in Mexico since the 16th century. With Spanish rule came mandatory vineyard plantings, wine-loving missions, and a steady flow of vino.

Today, the country is responsible for some exciting up-and-coming wines. The Baja region, in particular, is home to more than 125 producers and is beginning to get some serious industry recognition. Beneath the fine agave spirits and beach-friendly lagers, there’s quality wine on Mexico’s Pacific coast.

This is how to sharpen a serrated knife the right way
This fearsome blade needs a little extra love
Knife blades closeup

In every good set of kitchen knives, there is one particular blade that most people both love and hate. We love it for its ability to flawlessly slice through foods like crusty baguettes and plump, ripened tomatoes. Its jagged edge gives us smooth cuts through otherwise tricky-to-slice ingredients, all while appearing rather fierce in the process. But this knife can be desperately infuriating in its trickiness to sharpen. This is the serrated knife - a fiercely toothy blade with a saw-like edge.

Serrated knives come in all sizes for a variety of kitchen tasks. Their toothy edge is perfect for many culinary uses, allowing for crisp, clean cuts without tearing or squashing the ingredient's often tender interior.

Vodka martini with olives in a martini glass

The martini is an iconic cocktail, with millions being poured since its inception. Former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill was known to down martinis, as did legendary author Ernest Hemingway and the greatest spy of all time, James Bond, who famously liked his vodka martini shaken, not stirred. As you can see from Bond's specifications, there is more than one way to make a martini and crafting a martini the "proper" way is a subject of debate. Does a martini have to employ gin or vodka? Will the Martini Police pop up out of nowhere if you use vodka instead of gin?
