While Birkenstock is known for its traditional sandals and clogs, a new era is coming to the German-founded brand. Besides their conventional footwear offerings, Birkenstock is also home to Birkenstock 1774, a specialized line that provides silhouettes with premium craftsmanship and materials that stand out from the rest of their collection. Now Birkenstock 1774 is expanding through Ensemble 1774, a new platform based in Paris that invites innovative designers to collaborate on revamping their iconic styles. For their inaugural collection, Ensemble 1774 is partnering up with footwear designer Thibo Denis, who is known for their designs along with luxury brands such as Dior and Louis Vuitton. For this inaugural collection, the designer tackles the theme of “Climbing the City,” presented in three new silhouettes with stunning colorways.
Birkenstock’s Ensemble 1774 debuts with retro colors

Under the theme “Climbing the City,” Ensemble 1774’s first collection debuts new silhouettes with a nostalgic color and feel. Donning a colorway reminiscent of Yosemite in the 1970s, Thibo Denis’s collection delivers new silhouettes that encapsulate Birkenstock’s traditional DNA. Among the latest silhouettes, the Uerzell offers a slip-on mule featuring a soft suede material and a cork midsole. Bringing it together are a pair of thin laces, which look like a modern take on the brand’s classic sandal. The Uerzell is available in taupe, plasma, and maroon.
Also new to the lineup is the Stroedt, a slimmed-down lace silhouette that brings outdoor energy to the collection. A single strap wraps around the upper, bringing the classic Birkenstock buckle look to a new design. The Stroedt will be available in classic hues like black, bone, and plasma. Rounding out the latest collection is the Goerlitz. A chunkier and over-the-top silhouette, the Goerlitz is crafted from luxurious suede and features Birkenstock’s bone pattern on the outsole, along with the 1774 symbol on the heel. The Goerlitz will make its debut in black, brown, and mink shades. The collection’s pre-launch began via the Dover Street Market webstore, where it will make its official release at a later date.
