Unwind Like an Olympian at Shaun White’s For-Sale Malibu Retreat

Compass

Nobody is more synonymous with winter sports than Shaun White. The three-time Olympic gold medalist set the bar for extreme snowboarding and continues to break his own records each year. What many may not realize, though, is that White isn’t snowbound year-round. When not hitting the slopes, he unwinds at a beach-side retreat in beautiful Malibu, California. But it seems White is looking for a change and has now listed his second Malibu home for sale. Take a look at Point Dume, a cool coastal house fit for an Olympian.

Sitting atop a bluff overlooking the Pacific, Point Dume is a cozy 2,164-square-foot home sitting on one acre of beautifully manicured land. Built in 1948, the residence boasts many original classic California coastal elements that were popular at the time. From gorgeous hardwood flooring to mullioned clerestory windows to the tongue-and-groove white painted wood ceilings, everything about Point Dume speaks to the original design of this historic home.

Windows and several sets of double French doors open up to the sprawling lawn and ocean beyond. One the first floor, the doors lead out to a slate-tiled patio and large swimming pool with built-in hot tub. On the second floor, another set of French doors opens up to the deck — spacious enough for a dining set and lounge chairs.

Laid out in reverse, with the main living spaces on the top floor and the guest bedrooms on the bottom, the home was designed with views in mind. With the family room, kitchen, and dining area all on the top floor, the ocean can be seen, unobstructed, from any seat in the house. The home has been carefully maintained to retain its original charm, with a few modern updates. This means there is no central air conditioning, but the design of the home took this into consideration. Deep soffits on the exterior roof shade the large windows during the hottest parts of the day, keeping the heat out. But the chance that it might be a bit warm in the summer is a small price to pay to have access to the stunning beaches of Malibu and the ocean views.

While Point Dume may be a bit smaller than some of the other homes in the area, it’s no less luxurious. The giant lawn is perfect for hosting summer soirees, there is plenty of space for guests, the kitchen has been updated with gourmet appliances, and the master bathroom features spa-like amenities like a generous soaking tub and glass-enclosed shower. If all of this is good enough for Shaun White, it’s should be good enough for us average Joes.

Point Dume is currently on the market for $10,995,000 and is listed with Aaron Kirman of Aaron Kirman Group at Compass and Chris Cortazzo at Compass.

The first movie from Materialists director Celine Song just found a new streaming home
The movie is a brilliant look at the roads not taken.
The cast of Past Lives

Few directors have a debut feature that's as splashy as Celine Song's. The director, who now has Materialists in theaters, had a breakout hit at Sundance called Past Lives that took her all the way to the Oscars. Now that Materialists is in theaters and doing quite well, you might want to catch up with Past Lives, which was one of the best movies of 2023.

The film stars Greta Lee and is told in episodes that span more than 20 years. It starts in South Korea, and follows two Korean children who are clearly close friends and may even have a romantic spark as one of them prepares to move to Canada. Then, we follow their story over decades as they come into and out of each other's lives until they're both in their mid-30s and they reunite for a day in New York City.
