Cigar Lounge Spotlight: Cigar Point in Mexico City is an homage to Jack Nicholson

Cigar Point Whisky House is located at 225 Calle Querétaro on the second floor inside Mercado Roma in the trendy neighborhood of Roma Norte in Mexico City. If you’re lucky enough to visit CDMX, head to Mercado Roma, which, in my view, is Mexico City’s version of Downtown Los Angeles’ Grand Central Market.

After enjoying some tacos and beers on the first floor, walk halfway to the back of Mercado Roma, and you’ll see an elevator that will whisk you to the second floor. There, you’ll find Mexico City‘s best cigar lounge, which pays tribute to three-time Academy Award winner and noted lover of fine cigars, Jack Nicholson. I visited this joint for the first time in 2025 during my first trip to Mexico City that same year. During my 2026 summer-long stay, I vowed to visit every chance I had, and it hasn’t disappointed.

Whether you walk the stairs up to the second floor or take the elevator, you’re immediately met by portraits honoring the A Few Good Men star. Inside the lounge, the adulation for the 12-time Oscar nominee continues, from portraits depicting him blowing the perfect cigar puff circle to his famous Shining moment, except with a cigar hanging from his mouth.

What makes Cigar Point a must-visit for cigar lovers is its ample and comfortable seating, especially if you enjoy the indoor-outdoor flow. The cigar lounge features a covered terrace and massive TVs, offering guests a chance to catch the day’s best action.

My buddy Garrett Wren, a devout tobacco lover, happens to be in town, so we sauntered over there after dinner. For this occasion, I brought a handful of cigars I bagged after visiting the Casa de Campo’s Cigar & Rum Festival in the Dominican Republic earlier this year. The folks at Cigar Point were kind enough to let us smoke our sticks first before we hit the humidor room to buy cigars, which is the proper etiquette when you bring your own cigars.

I bought an Oliva Serie V Lancero. While it had a tougher draw than expected, I still enjoyed the Nicaraguan classic I first learned to love more than 20 years ago because I was surrounded by great company and the perfect atmosphere.

Cigar Point Whisky House boasts that name for a reason, meaning there are tons of great choices for a great whisky pour. On this recent visit, Garrett and I opted for an oldie but a goodie: Glenlivet’s 12-year-old single malt.

Not once, but twice.

I’ll admit that the humidor is not the grandest I’ve ever seen, but it’s stocked with quality cigars that’ll make you check the rules and regulations on traveling back home with cigars. Partagás, Montecristo, and H. Upmann, among other brands, fill the cozy humidor.

Cigar Point strikes me as the kind of place where regulars keep the lounge thriving and tourists visit to see what the buzz is all about, and those who do visit never leave disappointed.

If you visit on the weekend, expect Cigar Point’s neighbor to be poppin’ with music and hordes of able-body youngsters dancing the night away. On Cigar Point’s street, you’ll also find plenty of bars and music lounges that will make you want to start or end your night there.

When I first visited Mexico City in May 2025, I stumbled upon an incredible, intimate cigar lounge inside Nueve Nueve Restaurant in Roma Norte on Álvaro Obregón and Orizaba. When I returned in September that same year for a month-long stay, I was sad to learn that Nueve Nueve, including the cigar lounge, had shut down.

At that moment, I realized I would be on the hunt for a new cigar lounge. I found several that piqued my interest, but Cigar Point’s unbeatable location, obsession with Jack Nicholson, indoor-outdoor flow, and stellar cigar selection made it easy to call this lounge home.

Cigar Lounge Spotlight: The Carnegie Club takes you back to Rat Pack days
Couch, Furniture, Body Part

Three blocks south of Central Park, before you find yourself lost in the hectic environment of Times Square, is a cigar lounge tucked back away from the hustle and bustle. It almost feels like a secret. A place only those in the know are privy to. Of course, if that is the intention, then lovers of this establishment will be coming for me in no time with their pitchforks. I am talking about The Carnegie Club—a cigar lounge sitting on 56th Street between 6th and 7th Avenue. From the moment you walk in, it doesn’t feel like a normal, run-of-the-mill bar. No, this has a New York feel, but a specific kind of New York feel. One that harkens back to the days of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr. This feels like the Rat Pack days.
