Worn Out Wednesdays – Brenner Thomas

The ubiquitous PR men of Manhattan! Always on the go, never without their (often times multiple) phones and always smiling while putting out fires.

Brenner Thomas is one such man, although the way he handles clients, rarely is there a fire to put out unless it is part of their store opening. An Account Supervisor at LaForce + Stevens he works exclusively on men’s accessories for brands such as Perry Ellis, Oliver Spencer, Omega Watches, Barracuda, Woolrich, Woolen Mills and Woolrich John Rich & Bros.

Born in Palm Beach County Florida, (the most shark attacks and golf course in the country!), Brenner moved to New York in 2007 and worked on our side of the field in fashion journalism at DNR and WWD and then took a leap of faith into the PR side of things in 2010.

Here he explains his method to his sartorial madness.

I’ve been told I wear the same thing all the time! But I love a comfortable button down oxford Brooks Brothers Black Fleece; they are so thick they could almost stand on their own. I have loads of Gant since I work with them and I love them as well as the ones Michael Bastian makes for them as well. Those Brooks Brothers non-iron shirts are so genius. They look great right out of the dryer. Dockers chinos the alpha fit – I have them in six colors and you can wear them with Keds or a dress loafer. They are very transitional.

Paul Smith shoes are a big extravagance but they are so amazing. I have a pair of brogues and suede lace ups with different color laces.

But when I have to dress up for clients I wear patterned sport coats from Gant, which lends a very 50s feel. Then for suits I wear only Z Zegna. They fit well, they last and they won’t break the bank.

My style is pretty classic and driven by the standard ideals of American sportswear and prep. There is definitely an athletic side to me too. I love my Nike trainers I wear from work to the gym.

When it’s colder out I am in a flannel by Gant or Double RL, khakis by Dockers, Boots by Alden.

I am a big Nike fan for the gym. The fit is great and styling is well done. I wear vintage tees and for yoga I wear Lulu Lemon because the quality is so on par. You really notice it after a year when the elastic is still good and the fabric is still stable.

My dad is a pack rat and hangs on to everything he owns. He still has VHS tapes with cellophane on them! He has great embroidered pants, vintage Hermes ties and handsome old belts.  My prized possession is a weekender Bottega Venetta pre Thomas Meier that my mom found in the attic. I use it all summer. A real classic leather piece.

My look is a lot Thurston Howell, a bit of the Professor and a tad of Ginger thrown in!

Rolex’s latest white gold cosmograph Daytonas feature mother-of-pearl dials
Rolex adds new Cosmograph Daytona watches
Rolex Cosmograph Daytona

Rolex has introduced a new, super-expensive watch covered in diamonds. What's new? Well, while we're used to this, and it doesn't exactly warrant front-page news, this introduction actually does. This new chapter for the brand unveils two new additions to the Rolex Daytona collection, and they're certainly more opulent in a subtle way compared to previous designs.
Rolex Daytona: Two new Rolex Cosmograph Daytona watches added to the collection

These new Rolex watches, which are part of the Cosmograph Daytona collection, are diamond-set models adorned with mother-of-pearl dials. Hearing about any Rolex watch covered in diamonds automatically evokes fantasies of extravagance and wealth, at least it does for us, but these new timepieces are remarkably restrained when it comes to a balance between bling and subtlety.

What exactly are limited edition watches?
Know the buzz word before you buy
Citizen watch in ground beans

Have you ever watched a movie and wondered why the rare piece of art could ever be worth the obscene amount of money the debonair art thief claims it's worth? It is simple, really. It comes down to the fact that it is rare. A truly original piece of art masterfully created by the very hand who conjured it up in their mind is something that cannot be recreated. The same kind of rare value exists in the watch world, too. There is an entire industry of limited edition watches that claim rarity rivaled only by the masterful artwork of Renaissance artists who can no longer create original pieces.

But what does it really mean to say that a watch is a limited edition? Does it truly mean that there is little chance of you walking into a party or a bar and running into the ever-embarrassing moment when your "rare" watch sits on the wrist of another...in the same room? Or does it mean they just want you to buy it quickly because they have numbers to make before the shareholders' meeting? Both are possible. As usual here at The Manual, we did the legwork to make sure are armed with the information you need before you click the BUY button and invest in a limited edition watch.
