Much has been said and written about rooftop bars around the country. Who doesn’t love having a drink outdoors while the city throngs teem far below? But the concept isn’t limited to just swanky hotels or apartment complexes. Airports can be stuffy and even the nicest first-class lounge can feel a bit sterile at times. Enter Delta Air Lines’ new outdoor Sky Deck at Terminal 4 at JFK International Airport. It’s anything but sterile.

The 2,000-square-foot terrace is part of the new Sky Club and was developed in conjunction with Architectural Digest and interior designer Thom Filicia. Guests get unimpeded views of the runway, a first at JFK. The space is outfitted with comfortable JANUS et cie MOOD chairs and couches, perfect for those long layovers when all you want is to sink into a seat. Safavieh rugs dot the floors and Antonangeli, FLOs, Holly Hunt and Hinkley lights cast a ethereal glow. A small bar and potted plants complete the space.

“Amid the hustle and bustle of the airport experience, we seek to create a refuge, which represents Delta’s dedication to elevated design and pays homage to an elegant lifestyle of travel and the spirit of flight,” Filicia said.

The Sky Deck opened early this summer and is part of the new Delta Sky Club at the revamped Terminal 4. At 24,000-square-feet, the Sky Club is the largest in the Delta fleet. Guests can order food at both the Sky Deck and the interior Sky Club. Sushi, cheese, charcuterie and dessert are all available as is premium wine selected by Master Sommelier Andrea Robinson. In June, Delta launched its sister Sky Deck at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Smoking is prohibited at both lounges. Day passes can be purchased for $50.

Underwater Waterfall

Situated in the Indian Ocean approximately 1,200 miles southeast of Africa, sits the gorgeous Mauritius. This picturesque country is known for its beautiful beaches, lush landscapes, and vibrant culture. Mauritius is also home to one of the most captivating natural wonders on Earth– the Mauritius Underwater Waterfall. This beautiful optical illusion has fascinated visitors and travelers alike for years.

Despite its name, this phenomenon isn’t actually a waterfall in the traditional sense. Instead, it’s an optical illusion created by sand and sediment deposits on the ocean floor, paired with the unique underwater topography of the area.
