Beards, Booze, and Bacon: The IndyCar Racing Episode

What new bourbon are we pumped about? Which hiking trail are we exploring? Why is the next supercar so cool? The Manual is dedicated to helping men live a more engaged life. Each week, our editors and guests get together for a round-table discussion about what’s new, exciting, and unique in the men’s lifestyle world. So pop open your favorite brew, step into your man cave, and start streaming.

For this week’s episode of Beards, Booze, and Bacon: The Manual Podcast, Managing Editor Nicole Raney and our wonderful host, Greg Nibler, chat with two very special guests: Zach Veach and Dalton Kellet, professional race car drivers for the Andretti Autosport team.

Zach and Dalton compete in open-wheel racing. Simply put, it’s the sport of driving really, really fast in a car with wheels on the outside of its body. Zach drives the No. 26 Group One Thousand One Honda for the Verizon IndyCar Series and Dalton can be seen in the No. 28 K-Line Insulators USA Mazda in the Indy Lights league. If that wasn’t already impressive, both of these speed demons are still in their early 20s.

And when we say “really, really fast,” we mean it — Dalton and Zach regularly top 200 mph. What’s it like to hit that speed? How do you prepare for a race? What’s the difference between IndyCar and Indy Lights? How cool is Mario Andretti? Dalton and Zach answer all of these questions and more.

The two daredevils — of yeah, we forgot to mention they are fans of other equally dangerous sports — also talk to us about how they got into rock climbing and what they like to do in their free time, what little of it they have. We’re grateful they had a few extra minutes to spare while they were in The Manual office because we challenged Zach and Dalton to a mini-tournament of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Nintendo Switch with some amazing (and competitive) folks from our brother site, Digital Trends. After a smidge of smack talk and bit of humble-bragging, we settled it all on the track. And the winner is …

We were sad to see Dalton and Zach go, but we’re looking forward to their return to the Pacific Northwest for the Grand Prix of Portland the weekend of August 31 through September 2. Not in Portland? No problem. Take a look at the Verizon IndyCar Series and Indy Lights schedules to see when they’ll be heading your way. The seasons are wrapping up for 2018, but you can expect plenty of fuel-powered fun next year.

The best shows and movies to watch on Apple TV Plus in May
Apple TV+ has an impressive library that includes great movies and shows
Austin Butler in Masters of the Air.

When computer company Apple announced that it was getting into the streaming TV game, there were plenty of people who were skeptical about the company's ability to pull it off. Why would the tech giant, which is most known for the Macintosh and the iPhone, have any credibility in making television shows? It doesn't seem the two ideas would mesh in any meaningful way, but in the years since Apple TV Plus launched, the company has come up with some pretty impressive original shows, and it picked up a Best Picture Oscar on top of that.
What's even more impressive is that these Apple TV shows and movies run the gamut from comedy to drama, and are all set in wildly different and imaginative places. Apple may be best known for making great phones, but it turns out it knows how to tell pretty interesting stories, too. These Apple TV movies and shows are the cream of the crop and the best on this streaming service.
