Skip the Shopping and Opt Outdoors with Free State Park Admissions this Black Friday

In our fast-paced, consumer-based society, it can be difficult to find time to take a break. After a long year, the Holiday season should be about relaxation and meditation. So instead of rummaging through bins and hectic crowds at some Black Friday sales, join the millions of people helping to create a new family holiday the day after Thanksgiving by hitting your nearest state park — for free.

For the third year in a row, outdoor retailer REI launched their #OptOutside campaign in which it closes all of its stores and encourage others to get outdoors and explore.

Since the alternative Black Friday began, national and state parks around the U.S. have been waiving fees for entry and parking to help continue the tradition. Besides, who could say no at an opportunity to refresh and remind themselves that the world is a beautiful place. Not only does REI promote outdoor activities, they also provide inspiring resources, tools, and content to allow you to get inspired and receive the most out of your trip — from trail guides, to advice, and other events.

The Black Friday deals vary by state, of course. For example, it is the first year Washington state will be participating in the shenanigans. On the contrary, it will be the third year in a row that Oregon, Arizona, and California state parks will waive the day-use and parking fees.

And the trend seems to be catching on around the nation. Some of these parks will even have organized events like group hiking trips for those who need that extra push to get outdoors and revel in the wild.

You can find which state or national parks near you are participating this year below.

The best golf GPS devices for tracking your game in 2024
The Izzo Swami 6000 golf GPS device attached to a man's belt.

We've all had the dream where we're running towards something, only for it to get further and further away as we run. The same thing can happen easily in golf. People just aren't that great at eyeballing distances. A good golf GPS device can help. Much like in Mario Golf or any other golf video game, you have the chance to see a true to life "mini map" of your position and surroundings, plus can get an accurate to-hole distance check.

And that's just the beginning. The best golf GPS devices will also give you the ability to know where every trap and bend on the course is. That includes that sneaky sand pit on the other side of that innocent hill over yonder. Some are even able to keep track of your score, tell you the slope of the land and more. Try one of the following best golf GPS devices to get a big leg up on your game in 2024.
