Recap: The Manual Meet Up Portland

On April 9th, we had our second Manual Meet Up, this time in our Portland, Oregon HQ. From 6-9 pm we welcomed 40 guys and gals into our brand new entertaining space on the 10th floor of the ‘Big Pink’ in downtown Portland.

As the sun set, the guests witnessed spectacular views of the city while they sipped wine from local urban winery, Seven Bridges. Local chocolatiers Casabonne Confections offered up a variety of treats as well as custom bourbon truffles made with Bullet Bourbon. Olympic Provisions was also on hand with mounds of Portland’s finest charcuterie and cheese to feast on.

Heimplanet  sent us one of their epic new ‘The Cave’ inflatable tents for one helluva conversation piece. Of course as the wine flowed more people crept in to experience the tent, although our concrete floors aren’t as conducive for pow wows as creek side moss.

Some of the brands that swung by included:

  • Chester Wallace
  • Marine Layer
  • Tanner Goods
  • Kiriko
  • Index PDX
  • Colliers

Here's what we know so far, including when we might see that fourth season:

Beginner’s guide to cigar shapes and sizes — and why they matter
Why your cigar choice says more about you than your watch (and how to pick the perfect one)
A collection of cigars

Walking into a cigar shop and facing what seems like a million options is enough to make anyone panic. Cigars stacked everywhere, each with a strange name, size, and a slightly different shape from the last one. If you haven't done this before, it's tempting to just grab something, anything, and run!But hold on a second. Those shapes actually matter. They aren't just there to look fancy or make things confusing. The size and shape change the whole experience of smoking that cigar – how it tastes, burns, and feels. It's kind of like how driving a tiny sports car is way different than driving a big truck. Both get you where you're going, but the experience along the way is not the same.
