Dance at the Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival

The leaves may be changing and the temperatures dropping here on the East Coast, but that doesn’t mean music festival season is quite over yet. In NYC, we’re smack in the middle of CMJ Music Marathon while other cities around the country are coming up on their final fests of the year. And although we’re enjoying all the new music this week, we’re really looking forward to the first weekend in November when the Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival returns for its seventh year. Taking place across 10 venues in the borough’s Williamsburg neighborhood, the two-day fest celebrates both emerging and established artists from NYC and beyond.

Owned by Katie Longmyer and Jen Lyon, BEMF is hosted at venues big and small across Williamsburg, including Output’s Panther Room, Music Hall of Williamsburg, Verboten, Kinfolk, Baby’s All Right, Glasslands and more. Lyon sees it as an unconventional music experience for both artists and attendees. “Brooklyn has always been the fringe, she said. “Brought into the mainstream in these past few years, what still exists is a pulse that is unique. Artists experience New York City differently here.”

Last year’s festival was the most successful to date with more than 8,000 attendees and praise from music media big and small. This year’s lineup is impressive with artists like Machinedrum (who premiered a mix exclusively for BEMF), Little Boots, Damian Lazarus, Lee Bannon, Aeroplane and many more. The two-day fest starts with a pre-party on November 6 and runs through November 8 with passes starting at $120 and VIP passes at $175.
