Celebrity Inspired Red Carpet Grooming Tips

Award season is upon us and this year the men are taking center stage.

Ryan Gosling, Justin Timberlake and Donald Glover crushed this year’s Golden Globes with their killer style. But, you don’t need an Oscar nomination or have to be a celebrity to look your very best on the red carpet of life. For those special occasions, when you’re in the starring role, prepare with more than just a basic shave and a haircut. Award-winning, celebrity handsomeness can be acheived with just a little more primping from the neck up. Follow these celebrity-inspired black tie grooming tips and get ready for your close-up.

The Globes or “Beard Parade 2017” as Jon Hamm joked was a hairy affair. Proving elegance doesn’t have to mean clean-shaven; Ryan Reynolds, Chris Pine and Casey Affleck all rocked some serious facial hair. Also bearded was designer/director, Tom Ford who knows a thing or two about being camera ready. Follow his lead when dressing up. Keep your beard refined, trimmed and tamed with Tom Ford Conditioning Beard Oil in Tobacco Vanille, $50. This lightweight blended oil will nourish and hydrate your beard while the iconic scent will leave them wanting more.

You may not be getting an up-do, but that doesn’t mean leaving your hair un-did. “Shiny texture is back” according to AXE Hair celebrity stylist, Amy Komorowski who’s clients include Eddie Redmayne, Ryan Reynolds and Adam Driver. Her take on the Golden Globes, “We saw a resurgence of shiny hair last night and a departure from the popular matte ‘no product’ look. Pomade was the go-to product used to create a clean, classic style.” To channel your inner Colin Farrell, Brad Pitt or Tom Hiddleston; Amy suggests using AXE Smooth Look Shine Pomade, $5.25. “Apply a dime-sized amount to wet or damp hair and run a comb through to lock hair into place for a look that has just the right amount of shine.

And when it comes to black tie grooming, you’ll never go wrong sporting a classic, old Hollywood vibe. “One look that never goes out of style is a clean, side part or slicked back hair. A popular go-to for award shows, this look pairs nicely with a classic tux or suit for a super pulled together look that works on all hair types and flatters every face shape.” If you want to look polished like Ryan Gosling, Rami Malek or Aaron Taylor Johnson; she suggests using AXE Clean Cut Look Classic Pomade, $6.89. “While hair is damp, take a generous amount and really work it in, from roots to ends. Comb hair from front to back, making sure to get the sides and back as well. Depending on your style, you can keep it tight or run your fingers through to loosen the hair a bit. Have fun and experiment with side parts or none at all. Finish off with a bit more pomade and hairspray for hold”

How to trim a beard the right way — from stubble to full-on lumberjack
Choose the right beard, get the right tools, and master these techniques for a great look
Beard trimming

At first glance, how to trim a beard seems like an easy problem to solve. I have first-hand experience with this, as my beard grew out evenly when I decided to sprout one. Even better, it came in with a reddish color that complemented my long face and Scotch-Irish ancestry on my father’s side. The basic color and uniformity made it easy to overlook the inevitable mistakes I made, so the toughest task was reminding myself to trim every other day. Otherwise, I would grow a small beard forest that was tough to handle.
For many men, though, it’s not so simple. That’s especially true for beard novices and for those men whose beards serve up some surprises. When that happens, trimming becomes a tougher task, so a brief tactical review is a solid idea.
