Fall is fully on. That probably means changing colors in your neck of the woods and a desire for heavier comfort food dishes. In the glass, that might mean a shift to fall cocktail recipes featuring things like a good rye whiskey.
No, it does not mean you have to do away with your crisp lager beers and rum-centric drinks. But we do understand the pull of bigger dishes and bolder drinks. With a chill in the air, we tend to desire a bit more weight in our foods.
The days are shorter, making way for longer evenings ideal for a slow sipper. We’re sitting on a drink that’s up to the task. It’s simple to put together and a great way to cap a cool evening.

Bramble & Rye

This cocktail really allows the pumpernickel rye whiskey to shine. Use fresh lemon juice and feel free to sub in different kinds of fruited liqueur as you see fit.
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 ounces Middle West Spirits Dark Pumpernickel Straight Rye Whiskey
- 1/2 ounce blackberry liqueur
- 1/2 ounce lemon juice
- 1/2 ounce simple syrup
- Soda water
- Lemon peel and skewered blackberries for garnish
Method:
- Add all ingredients except soda water into a shaker tin and shake vigorously until well chilled.
- Double strain into rocks glass over a large cube and top with a splash of soda water.
- Garnish with expressed lemon peel and skewered blackberries.
