As if there weren’t enough reasons to love Portland International Airport. Now, there’s one more. The Rose City’s own Straightaway Cocktails has opened a cocktail lounge there, solidifying the hub as one of the best American airports.

Now, in addition to cool record stores, short film cinemas, and great food, there’s a place for a bar-level cocktail. It’s perhaps no surprise, as the airport tends to focus on local, from Oregon breweries to area restaurant chains. Straightaway already has a partnership with Alaska Airlines, with many of their RTD canned cocktails showing up on the in-flight menu.

Gone are the days of overpriced macro beers in a sterile watering hole as you wait for your flight. Now, you can get a great cocktail made from local ingredients in a cool-looking bar. The brand covers the spectrum, making everything from Nitro Gin Fizz drinks and Paper Plane cocktails to Margaritas and Old Fashioned’s.

The new bar features tasteful decor and visitors can enjoy a drink there or take some canned versions to-go. It’s located in the South Concessions area. Drinks on the menu at the moment include everything from a Roma Spritz and Pickletini to a Mai Tai and Paloma.

It’s part of a growing movement of local drinks outfits opening shop at the airport. Recently, Freeland Spirits set up the North Market Concession there, a tasting room showcasing the brand’s strong portfolio of spirits. Flight delays are way more fun now.

Next time you’re at PDX, set aside a little extra time to enjoy the place. It’s a gem of an airport.

Willett Distillery Fills The First Barrel At Their New Springfield Facility
While many bourbon giants are pausing production, an independent Kentucky family is doing the opposite.
Barrel, cask, window

There's a particular kind of confidence required to build a brand-new distillery in 2026, as the bourbon industry is in the middle of a hard correction.

Jim Beam paused production at its flagship Clermont facility for the entire year, Kentucky warehouses are sitting on a record 16-plus million aging barrels, and U.S. whiskey distillers cut output sharply through 2025 as younger drinkers buy less and the boom-era oversupply works its way through the system.
