Blade and Bow is releasing a new, annual solera-aged whiskey

Solera-aged whiskey fans will want to try this new expression

Blade and Bow differentiates itself from some of its counterparts in Kentucky by using a Solera system for aging, blending bourbons of different ages to create a unique expression. Recently, it announced the launch of a new limited-edition, annual Solera-aged expression.

Blade and Bow 12-Year-Old Solera Reserve

Crafted by Nicole Austin, the Director of American Whiskey Liquid Development and Capabilities at Diageo, Blade and Bow 12-Year-Old Solera Reserve is made with a multi-vat Solera finishing and blending process that includes Cognac, Bordeaux, Moscatel, and Port vats.

According to Blade and Bow, this 104-proof  limited release begins with a nose of red fruit, dried figs, and currants. The palate is centered on notes of caramelized sugar, dried fruit, almond toffee, cocoa powder, and dark cherry. The finish is long, warm, and ends with a balance of dark fruit and oak spice. To give this expression the respect it deserves, it should be imbibed neat or on the rocks on a cool evening. This definitely isn’t the type of whiskey you’ll want to hide in a cocktail.

“From the start, I wanted to capture the fruit, tannin, and aromatic lift that can be achieved with cask-finished bourbon, without the common pitfalls of one-noteness or overly tannic, new-wood character,”  says Austin.

“I achieved this while honoring Blade and Bow’s Solera heritage, using the technique to blend new and older whiskey across multiple carefully chosen, large-format vintage vats to create a delicate weave of vibrant fruit and honey, layered over notes of vanilla, spice, and leather.”

Where can I buy it?

Blade and Bow 12-Year-Old Solera Reserve will be available in select markets nationwide,, including North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Ohio, Georgia, Illinois, and Kentucky,, beginning in July, for a suggested retail price of $64.99 per 750ml bottle. It will also be available for purchase at the Stitzel-Weller Distillery Experience.

Beginning July 17th, visitors to the distillery can also get a custom Blade and Bow flight experience, including the pillars of the portfolio: Blade and Bow Whiskey, Blade and Bow 12-Year-Old Solera Reserve, and Blade and Bow 22-Year-Old.
