This Netflix series from the creators of Chef’s Table explores a different region of the world each season. We start off on the streets of much of Asia — Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore, and more — to see the carts, stalls, and markets that folks visit as part of their everyday routines. Subsequent seasons visit Latin America and the US, and unlike other food shows, Street Food spends each episode highlighting the intense personal connection between the meals and the people who make them. Immerse yourself in the sights and sounds, then pretend you can smell all the smells.

All of the most potent documentary films, in-depth magazine features, and stirring nonfiction works have someone to thank: The person behind the camera. Photographers are often left out of the spotlight because they’re too busy searching for the next perfect shot (and, you know, taking it). Tales By Light, which began as a short series from Canon and evolved into a partnership with National Geographic, introduces you to one amazing photographer in each episode and takes you along his or her next journey to capture elusive wildlife, unique communities, and stunning landscapes. The almost metaphysical look through the lens at another person looking through a lens encourages you to see the subject matter in a slightly different light (no pun on the show’s name intended).

Ultrarunners and marathoners are notoriously gear-obsessed. Who doesn’t want the latest technology in shoes, clothes, and snacks? Lorena Ramírez bucks that trend completely. The Mexican native competes in her indigenous garb: Sandals and skirts, and sees places all over the world as she runs distances that exhaust most of us when we’re just thinking about them.

Although it’s not explicitly a show about travel, Our Planet is a pretty comprehensive look at the natural world and its often breathtaking beauty. The series is explicitly about the way that climate change is destroying the world around us, but it’s also a stark reminder of all of the wonders of the natural world. Whether Our Planet makes you want to travel or not, it’s worth watching if only to appreciate how much is at stake when we talk about the future of the place we all call home.

To be one of the hosts of this show. The World’s Most Amazing Vacation Rentals is essentially just travel porn, but that’s part of what makes it great. The series follows a group of hosts who travel around the world to check out what are essentially incredibly fancy Airbnbs, and admire the many accommodations that they provide to their wealthy guests. For most of us, who will never have the cash to spend $10,000 a night to sleep anywhere, it’s a vivid look at many of the extraordinary places a person can stay.

Following a team of three experts who help failing restaurants, Restaurants on the Edge elevates itself above something like Kitchen Nightmares by tapping into the communities around the restaurant in order to draw inspiration for these restaurants. While the show does have its more exploitative moments, on the whole, it’s about the ways in which restaurants and the food they serve are meant to be a reflection of the communities that they exist within. It’s the rare cooking/travel show that acknowledges how connected those two things are.
Restaurants On The Edge. Official Trailer. Coming to Netflix February 28.

What was once old is new again: Bang & Olufsen Beosystem 3000c Dune Grey Edition reunites generations
A new limited edition turntable combining physical and streaming makes music as generational as family
Electronics, Cd Player, Hot Tub

I hail from the generation of the curated playlist. While most of the artists I grew up listening to had phenomenal albums (can we get a standing ovation for Michael Jackson's Thriller or Dr. Dre's The Chronic?), my dad was of the mind that singles were only as good for a couple of stand-alone minutes and worked better in the context of an entire album. He could sit and listen to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon or The Beatles' Abbey Road with no breaks. I think the only album we could both do that with was Nirvana's Nevermind. In any case, by the time I was able to decide on the music in my own car, my generation was ripping music and making playlists on CDs. Even the greatest hits collections still had only one artist at a time. We wanted a collection of artists giving us the same feeling for 90 minutes without changing a CD. However, there is something to be said about my dad's way. A good album is a good album. And listening to them unbroken is a lost joy we're discovering again as a society. That is why Bang & Olufsen's new Beosystem drop is making a splash. The Beosystem 3000c Dune Grey Edition brings the two generations together, making music the connection we've always needed it to be.
