As much as I love planning an international trip, there’s something to be said for the ease of traveling domestically. There’s a time and a place for crafting a European summer adventure itinerary that explores some of the most beautiful spots in the world. I love that type of travel. But we all know there’s a difference between travel and vacation — and sometimes you just want an easy, care-free summer escape that feels like paradise without leaving the country.
This summer, passport-free escapes are redefining modern getaways as travelers desire an easy trip that doesn’t sacrifice immersive experiences. From tropical island vibes to desert retreats, these 7 U.S. summer escapes feel like paradise (but are right at home).
The Belgrove Resort & Spa, West Palm Beach, Autograph Collection

Many people associate West Palm Beach with its lively downtown feel, but the Belgrove Resort & Spa sets itself apart with its sprawling layout that feels like a destination in and of itself. Set on land that was once a former mango grove, this is the type of retreat that makes you mentally check out the moment you check in.
With three resort-style pools (one which is adults only) and an incredible spa on site, it’s the perfect summer escape that requires no planning. Just show up, grab a chair by the pool, order a frozen strawberry daiquiri, and you can really call it a day. You don’t even need to pack sunscreen (they have COOLA suncare products just waiting by the pool for you — I loved this little touch.)
Arizona Biltmore, LXR Hotels & Resorts

It’s been over a year since I visited the historic Arizona Biltmore property — and I’m still thinking about this desert oasis. This famous socialite escape gives “lush desert chic” vibes, blending historic glamour with modern desert luxury for a true paradise escape.
The cabanas that surround the adults-only Saguaro Pool are a great place to relax, along with the cozy fire pits surrounding the Biltmore cottages in the evenings. Even in the summer heat, the shaded desert landscape of this resort makes it an ideal year-round vacation retreat. A visit to Arizona Biltmore gives you a full “resort-heavy” vacation vibe without having to escape to anywhere too far away.
Under Canvas Yosemite

Those seeking a bit more of “adventure luxury” for a summer escape will love Under Canvas Yosemite. This unique experience is one of the best ways to get the true Yosemite experience without giving up modern amenities.
While I haven’t been to this resort myself, I’ve heard excellent things from others on our team who describe this as a “luxury camping” experience. The safari-style tents are equipped with a pull-chain hot shower, a flushing toilet, and a sink (so you don’t have to give up all of your comforts on vacation).
The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort, Waikiki

The Royal Hawaiian is one of the most iconic resorts in Hawaii, known for it’s bright pink exterior. This so-called “pink palace” encompasses everything you want in a paradise escape. From the stunning views of Diamond Head and direct Waikiki beach access to the serene gardens on the property, this property surely lives up to the hype.
Even though many people rave about Waikiki Beach, my favorite part about staying here was actually the tropical garden oasis. While you’re on property at The Royal Hawaiian, you get a true “island” vibe that feels secluded from the busy atmosphere of the rest of O’ahu. While this summer escape might be a bit more of a trek than the rest on this list (especially if you’re coming from the East Coast), I can assure you it’s worth your while for an unforgettable trip.
Omni Scottsdale

Travelers seeking a paradise that has more of an old-world European charm might just find their home at Omni Scottsdale. This desert retreat escape channels the spirit of Southern Spain and Morocco through Andalusian architecture, whitewashed archways, and tiled courtyards. From tapas bars to the renowned Joya Spa, this desert retreat is one that requires no planning to have an amazing time. Plus, how could you possibly have a bad time with the scenic backdrop of this retreat?
Bungalows Key Largo

Everyone I know is probably tired of hearing me talk about The Bungalows at Key Largo, but I’m not sorry about it. This all-inclusive, adults-only retreat in the Florida Keys has such a unique design with it’s adorable little Bungalows that line the property.
This luxury paradise escape provides a sense of peace and tranquility I’ve truly never felt at another resort. One of my favorite spots on property is the Zen Pool, which truly does feel “zen”. The all-inclusive nature of this resort also gives the vibe of a Caribbean all-inclusive resort (without as long of a flight).
Hilton West Palm Beach

For me, a tropical drink inside a coconut is and the feeling of sunshine on my face is all I need to get all those “summer feels”. Hilton West Palm Beach has a great poolside atmosphere. Despite its location in the heart of downtown West Palm Beach, this hotel still feels like a resort. I love that you get the feeling of a resort vacation here while still having the urban feel and downtown walkability.
