7 dreamy winter getaways for couples: Cozy escapes for every romance

Are you craving a winter escape?

Some of my favorite vacations with my partner have been in the wintertime. Maybe it’s the slower pace, the cozy sweaters, or the excuse to eat your body weight in fondue, but there’s something undeniably romantic about escaping together when the world feels quieter. Whether you’re snuggling up in a mountain cabin as snowflakes swirl outside or swapping the cold for warm beaches and sunset cocktails, winter can be the perfect season to fall even more in love (or at least pretend you’re in a Hallmark movie).

From steamy hot springs in Iceland to candlelit dinners in the Alps, I’ve rounded up some of the dreamiest romantic winter getaways for couples. These destinations aren’t just beautiful, they’re the kind of places that make you want to slow down and reconnect.

Iceland

If your idea of romance includes amazing scenery and a dash of adventure, Iceland is one of the dreamiest romantic winter getaways imaginable. The landscape transforms into a frosty wonderland, perfect for glacier hikes, ice cave tours, and steamy dips in the Blue Lagoon. You can even explore frozen waterfalls or take a road trip along the South Coast to spot wild Icelandic horses in the snow.

“In winter, Iceland becomes a place where quiet moments feel amplified by snowfall, wide open sky, and complete silence,” says Sherry Martin Peters, International Flight Attendant and Founder of Atlas + Wild. “Couples wake up in luxury glass cottages with floor-to-ceiling views of frozen lava fields, and in the evening, soak in private hot tubs as they wait for the Aurora Borealis to dance overhead.”

Andermatt, Switzerland

Situated high in the Swiss Alps, Andermatt feels like the setting of a romantic snow-dusted movie. Skiers will love tackling the legendary Gemstock, where wide-open runs and thrilling off-piste lines promise a day well spent. But even if you never clip into skis, there’s plenty to do: take a horse-drawn carriage ride through the village, sip mulled wine at a cozy café, or hop aboard the Glacier Express for alpine views.

There are plenty of amazing resorts in the area, but The Chedi Andermatt is the ultimate couples’ escape, designed by Jean-Michel Gathy to blend Swiss chalet charm with Asian-inspired calm. Think roaring fireplaces, candlelit fondue dinners in The Chalet, llama treks through snowy valleys, and relaxing spa treatments.

Leavenworth, Washington

Tucked away in the Cascade Mountains, Leavenworth is a Bavarian-style village that’s equal parts stunning, kitschy, and ridiculously charming. The entire town transforms into a twinkling winter wonderland, with gingerbread-style buildings, snowy rooftops, and streets lined with festive lights. “You feel like you are staying in a fun, charming German village, not the Pacific Northwest!” says Steve Schwab, CEO of Casago. “Everything gets decorated for the holidays and there are tons of great restaurants and shops to check out, as well as great, romantic lodging options.”

Couples can stroll through the quaint boutiques, sip mulled wine at the Christmas Market, or hit the nearby ski trails. When hunger hits, try Andreas Keller for authentic schnitzel, München Haus for bratwurst and beer under twinkling lights, or Visconti’s for cozy Italian with a mountain view.

Aspen, Colorado

Few places do winter romance quite like Aspen. With its snow-covered peaks, luxury lodges, and glamorous-yet-cozy vibe, it’s no wonder couples flock here for a little alpine magic. Spend the day skiing or snowboarding, then unwind at one of the town’s many day spas like Heaven on Earth or the serene RAKxa Wellness Spa at the St. Regis Aspen.

When it comes to Aspen hotels, you can’t go wrong with icons like The Little Nell, known for its ski-in, ski-out elegance, or the Viceroy Snowmass, where fireplaces, plush robes, and mountain views set the mood. Après-ski, grab truffle fries and champagne at Ajax Tavern, savor fine dining at Element 47, or cozy up at locals’ favorites J-Bar, Kenichi, or Matsuhisa

Saariselkä, Finland

If you’re dreaming of places in Europe to spend Christmas that feel like a real-life snow globe, Saariselkä in Finnish Lapland delivers. This secluded Arctic escape is one of those romantic winter getaways that feels almost unreal. Picture snow-laden forests, reindeer sleigh rides, and glass-roofed igloos built for stargazing (and serious cuddling).

“Yes, it’s cold and you’ll want to pack correctly, but you’ll be rewarded with a winter wonderland few get to see,” says Kat Smith, founder of A Way Abroad. “Imagine only seeing the cold white, no matter which direction you look. It’s romantic for the fact you’re going to want to get cozy. Think nude saunas, snuggling by the fire, and wanting all the body heat you can get at night. Plus, if you book an accommodation with a skylight, you’ll get to do all of this with an uninterrupted view of the night sky and Aurora Borealis while you’re at it.”

Prague, Czech Republic

Winter casts a magical spell over Prague’s cobblestone streets and centuries-old bridges. Blanketed in snow and twinkling lights, the city transforms into a living fairytale, especially when the scent of roasted chestnuts and mulled wine drifts through the Christmas markets in Old Town Square.

For a local’s touch, wander through Letna, home to elegant old houses, foreign embassies, and a beer garden overlooking the river. Or head to Riegrovy Sady, a central park with another great beer garden perfect for winter sunsets and cozy layers. End your night at La Cave D’Adrien, a charming wine bar tucked along a roundabout where you can toast to your romantic winter getaway.

Napa Valley

While everyone flocks to Napa during autumn, winter is when this wine country truly shines for couples seeking romantic winter getaways without the chill. “Everyone wants to see Napa during harvest season, and it’s beautiful then, but it’s just as lovely in winter,” says Travel Expert and Director of Content at point.me, Katie Hammel. “By early December, the grape vines are studded with leaves in brilliant red and orange, wineries decorate for Christmas, and by January, the fields are studded with pops of yellow mustard flowers.”

With lower prices, fewer crowds, and plenty of locals to chat with, Napa in winter feels intimate and relaxed. The weather stays mild – sunny and around 60°F by day, cool enough for fireside wine tastings by night. Sip cabernet at cozy tasting rooms, indulge in a Michelin-starred meal, or simply take a slow drive through vineyard-lined valleys painted in winter gold. It’s the kind of California winter that pairs perfectly with a glass (or two) of pinot noir.

I spent 72 hours in London with only a carry-on. Here’s how I did it in style
Luxury travel doesn't require a checked bag
London

Somewhere between the baggage claim carousel and the Elizabeth Line, I realized I'd already won. As passengers from my Norwegian flight to London crowded around the conveyor belt waiting for checked luggage to appear, I was already on my way into the city. Twenty minutes later, I was headed toward central London with nothing more than a carry-on suitcase and a backpack. I've become a bit of a carry-on evangelist over the past few years. Not because I'm trying to prove some minimalist point or because I enjoy seeing how few shirts I can survive with. I just genuinely think it's the better way to travel, especially for a long weekend in Europe.

My recent 72-hour trip from Copenhagen to London wasn't exactly a backpacker's itinerary. It included a stay at one of London's nicest luxury hotels, rooftop cocktails, dinners worth dressing up for, and plenty of walking through Soho, Covent Garden, and the rest of central London. Somehow, everything I needed fit inside my Travelpro Platinum Elite Slim Cabin Hardshell Spinner V2, with a backpack holding my flight essentials.

Want to feel like a lad watching England vs. Norway in New York City? The London is where it’s at
The quarterfinals are here. The London's where you should be.
Flag, Plant, City

The last quarterfinal games in the 2026 FIFA World Cup are here. England-Norway kicks things off in Miami before Argentina-Switzerland caps the day's action in Kansas City. One of the best things to come out of the World Cup has been the atmosphere these fans have provided at each city they've visited. We saw the amazing vibes out of Mexico City last week when England fans visited. Before the game, England fans partied and went toe-to-toe with Mexicans at bars everywhere. I know because I was there at The Dog House Pub.

After England beat Mexico in a classic Round of 16 game, fans flooded the streets and partied. We celebrated with England fans until the wee hours of the morning. If you have a serious case of FOMO, you need not worry. You can still catch good vibes and feel like a lad watching England-Norway at The London, A Luxury Collection Hotel, in New York City.
