Everyone knows Washington D.C. as the political and historical heart of our nation — but few get to see the luxury that lives behind closed doors. On my recent weekend trip to Washington D.C., I got a chance to explore three of the top Presidential Suites at some of the city’s most luxurious hotels. From the sprawling two-story Waldorf Townhouse Suite at Waldorf Astoria D.C. to the views of the White House from Hotel Washington, these luxurious suites each offer a unique vibe to appeal to high-profile guests.
Waldorf Townhouse Suite at Waldorf Astoria Washington D.C.
Sprawling over 6,300 square feet split between levels, Waldorf Astoria‘s Townhouse Suite is the largest suite room in all of Washington D.C. The bi-level residence style makes this massive suite feel a bit more like “home” with ultra-private features like a separate entrance directly onto Pennsylvania Avenue (guests do not need to go through the hotel lobby).
The Townhouse Suite includes two bedrooms with canopy beds, walk-in closets, spa-style bathrooms, and a private workout room. Unlike most Presidential Suites in Washington D.C., this space feels more like a private residence than a hotel suite room. Designed for luxury guests and maximum privacy, the formal dining space can set up to 16 people and includes a butler’s pantry for hosting private dinner parties. Given the suite’s location inside the Waldorf Astoria D.C. (a structure that used to be an old post office), this space blends classic architectural details with modern Waldorf finishes like luxury chandeliers.
Presidential Suite at Omni Shoreham Washington D.C.
At over 1,700 square feet, the Presidential Suite at Omni Shoreham hotel is the largest suite room in the Woodley Park neighborhood of the city. Since the 1930’s, Omni Shoreham has hosted many U.S. presidents and world leaders in this very room. With views overlooking Rock Creek Park, the Presidential Suite features a private bedroom, kitchen area, full dining room, and living room. The formal dining room can seat up to eight guests, designed for hosting meetings or small, private dinners.
Different than the ultra-modern luxury found at other D.C. hotels, rooms at Omni Shoreham retain a historic, 1930’s feel to give guests a classic, historic luxury feel throughout their stay. Throughout the years, many high-profile guests like the Beatles, Obama, and Harry Truman stayed have stayed Omni Shoreham.

For D.C. guests seeking a bit more of a modern feel, the Presidential Suite at Hotel Washington delivers. Just steps away from the White House, this large, apartment-style suite is designed for VIP stays and guests who want to be in close proximity of the White House.
Unlike larger chain hotels, Hotel Washington sets itself apart with a uniquely upscale feel that feels more like a boutique hotel than a typical chain. Like all rooms at Hotel Washington, this Presidential Suite has a very contemporary luxe design using materials like brass and marble throughout decor and fixtures. Guests here can also visit the VUE Rooftop for stellar views of the Washington Monument, White House, and other D.C. landmarks.
