If you wanted to try New Riff’s popular Winter Whiskey last year, but didn’t get a chance, you can get a bottle this Friday. That’s because the seasonal bourbon whiskey will once again be released on Black Friday. But that’s not all: the Kentucky-based brand will also be relaunching its Sherry Finished Malted Rye Whiskey.
New Riff’s new releases

New Riff Winter Whiskey is a Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey that takes on a holiday flavor with the addition of malted oats and chocolate malt. The mash bill is 65% corn, 20% malted oats, 7% pale ale malt, 5% steel-cut raw oats, and 3% chocolate malt. This 100-proof expression was bottled-in-bond and spent a minimum of four years maturing in a federally bonded warehouse.
“Going back to our brewing roots, this whiskey was inspired by our love of chocolate oatmeal stouts,” Master Distiller Brian Sprance, says.
“We took that beer recipe and reimagined it as a bourbon, exploring how chocolate malt and malted grains could translate through distillation. It’s an incredibly challenging whiskey to make, but it’s a challenge we look forward to every time. The result is a non-traditional, one-of-a-kind expression that marries rich, malty chocolate flavors with the classic vanilla and char of the barrel.”
Originally launched in 2022, New Riff Sherry Finish Malted Rye is a non-chill-filtered, cask-strength whiskey that spent secondary maturation in oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks.
“We’re not known for barrel finishing, which is why this whiskey stands out in our lineup,” Sprance says.
“Treating our 100% Malted Rye as a malt whiskey first made a sherry cask finish feel completely natural. The result is rich, elegant, and nuanced, with rye character that bursts through in the finish. We’re incredibly proud of how this one turned out, and we think people will really enjoy it.”
Where can I find them?
