To celebrate the beginning of the Lunar New Year on February 17th and the Year of the Horse, Taiwan’s Kavalan Distillery and its importer, Hotaling & Co., recently announced the launch of a special gift box featuring its Triple Sherry Cask Single Malt Whisky.
Year of the Horse Lunar New Year Gift Set
The gift box is adorned with a golden horse (a symbol of vitality and good fortune) galloping over blooming peonies (which represent prosperity). In addition to a bottle of the aforementioned single malt whisky, the gift box also includes a tulip-shaped snifter.
While the box and bottle label are elegantly designed, the whisky itself is just as noteworthy. Kavalan Triple Sherry Cask Single Malt Whisky is a marriage of whiskies aged in Oloroso, Pedro Ximénez, and Moscatel casks. According to the brand, the result is an 86-proof whisky that opens with aromas of berries, dried fruits, orange peels, chocolate, toffee, cinnamon, and oak. The palate is centered on dried fruits, caramelized sugar, and honey sweetness. The finish is medium in length, warm, and ends with a mix of honey, fruits, and oak.
“During this process, the flavors harmonize through a myriad combination of the three sherry cask whiskies, creating up to nine distinct sherry dimensions. With the dried fruits of the Oloroso cask as its main character, Triple Sherry is embellished with the sweetness of PX and Moscatel casks,” Senior Blender Zerose Yang says.
