How to make a Monk’s Kiss, a cocktail from a top Nashville bar

A great drink from a bar inspired by a famous Beatles song

Nashville bring it all in heaps. From a mesmerizing live music scene and honky-tonk to spicy chicken and an actual Parthenon, the city is teeming with character. It’s perhaps no surprise that Music City is home to a few amazing cocktail recipes as well.

We’ve got one from one of our favorite bars in town, otherwise known as Martha My Dear. The drink features a tea-infused syrup and lovely texture. Mind the ongoing Green Chartreuse shortage, as you’ll need some of that liquid to carry out the drink.

This is a lovely addition to your spring cocktail recipe canon. It’s a balanced number from an acclaimed bar and something we’ll be enjoying all season long. We’re fans of a good old fashioned Gin and Tonic too but sometimes you want to go next level.

Read on for the full recipe.

Monk’s Kiss

This drink comes to us from Nicole Bowen at Martha My Dear. It’s a great mix of aromatic gin and Chartreuse and tropical notes like coconut and lime. You get a little froth at the top, which makes for a nice pillow-y home for your lime wedge. As always, stick with the freshest citrus you can find.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ounce gin
  • 1/2 ounce Green Chartreuse
  • 1 ounce coconut water
  • 1/2 ounce coconut-oolong syrup
  • 1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
  • Tonic for topping

Method:

  1. Combine the ingredients in a shaker tin and shake hard.
  2. Strain into a Collins glass and top with tonic water (preferably Fever Tree Light Tonic).
  3. Garnish with lime wedge.

I Take Back Everything I Said About Brunch
From Thai breakfast soup to Israeli spreads and Bloody Marys in the West Village, these are the New York City brunches that finally converted a former brunch hater..
Food, Food Presentation, Brunch

In my dissolute youth, I worked as a line cook in a hotel kitchen on Martha's Vineyard. Oh, how I loathed the brunch shift. Churning out a never-ending procession of yogurt parfaits and chocolate-chip pancakes, I wanted to dunk my head in the deep fryer by noon every Sunday. I even pitied the customers, who paid a premium for uninspired fare prepared by hungover, pissed-off cooks. Brunch? Fie upon it! The repast of brain-dead yoga moms.

But how age changes us. Now approaching forty, I'm something of a brunch maximalist. I once fancied myself an urban Viking, subsisting on pre-workout and nicotine by day and steak and whiskey by night. These days, I prefer nothing more than a lazy Sunday morning with my girlfriend in a sunlit dining room. Twin cappuccinos. Smoked salmon eggs Benedict. Tabasco-spiked Bloody Marys. A post-prandial stroll through the West Village. Why the hell did I shun such joys for so many years?

A Le Cordon Bleu graduate and HACCP-trained food safety expert with more than 20 years of experience, including serving in a James Beard Award-winning kitchen, fine-dining chop houses and boutique butcheries, he brings whole-chain expertise to Verde Farms' commitment to organic, 100% grass-fed beef from pasture to plate.
