How to make a Blushing Gin and Tonic

How to make a tasty watermelon-colored G and T

Blushing Gin & Tonic.

Spring is on its way. That means longer days, blooming flowers, and, of course, pink cocktail recipes. We’ve got one that not only fits the color aesthetic, but celebrates Women’s History Month as well (taking place all March).

This gin and tonic recipe comes to us from Freeland Spirits in Portland. The woman-owned brand touts a mean lineup, which includes everything from meticulously-made gin to whiskey. The pink gin, once just an occasional offshoot, is now a full member of the portfolio due to popular demand.

If you’re in the midst of the downtown Portland dining scene, you should pop over to Freeland. They have a cool space in the nearby NW quadrant, deftly-made cocktails, and the production room (gorgeous stills and all) is right next door to the inviting bar. But if you can’t make it, whip up a taste of the place at home.

But what to do with this beautiful-looking spirit? Sip it on its own, of course. But if you’re in the mixing mood, we suggest the following cocktail.

Blushing Gin & Tonic

This spring-forward cocktail takes advantage of one of our favorite tonic brands, not to mention a great gin with alluring aromatics.

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces Freeland Pink Gin
  • Fever Tree Grapefruit Tonic
  • Grapefruit and rosemary for garnish

Method:

  1. Build in a copa glass and add gin and ice.
  2. Top with Fever Tree Grapefruit and garnish.

Here’s to the increasingly milder evenings of spring. May flowers, and floral cocktails and mocktails, accompany your many journeys ahead.

Tequila Corralejo Introduces Smaller Bottle For the First Time in More Than 250 Years
Alcohol, Beer, Beverage

If you’ve walked into a Mexican bar or restaurant, chances are you’ve noticed the big blue bottle of tequila. Corralejo is famous for its tall, slim bottles that come in 750 milliliters and 1.75 liters. The 750-milliliter bottle is the standard size you’ve probably become familiar with. Corralejo also has clear bottles for its Blanco, red bottles for its Añejo, and a tall, round, bright blue bottle for its Triple Distilled Tequilas, among other shapes and types.

It’s been this way for decades and decades. But for the first time, Corralejo is meeting the demand for smaller, easily digestible, and giftable bottles. Arriving ahead of Hispanic Heritage Month and Mexican Independence Day in September, Corralejo is introducing the 375ml Reposado bottle, which aims to create “a timely entry point into Tequila Corralejo’s more than 250 years of tequila-making heritage, while offering a right-sized option for intimate gatherings, gifting, and cocktail occasions.”

Tip Your Hat to Stetson Bourbon: The Natural Evolution of America’s Most Iconic Western Brand
Alcohol, Beverage, Liquor

Stetson. You know the name. You proudly wear the hats. Now get to know its bourbon. America’s most iconic Western brand is launching Stetson Bourbon, touted as a “super-premium, high-rye proprietary blend distilled and bottled in Bardstown, Kentucky.” The brand, created in 1865 by John B. Stetson, who invented and perfected the cowboy hat, is bringing the same quality and craftsmanship to its bourbon, blended by Kentucky Master Blender Dan Callaway.

The launch has been a long time coming, resulting in a bottle and spirit worthy of the Stetson name. After a three-year journey of sourcing and tasting, Stetson found its ideal blender and two of the most respected bourbon producers in Kentucky, Green River Distilling Co. and Bardstown Bourbon Company.
