Texas-based K. Spoetzl Brewery & Distillery is most known for its timeless Shiner Bock beer. In 2025, the brand released a limited, distillery-only release whiskey called Shiner Texas Legend Bourbon. Recently, the distillery announced it would be adding to its spirits portfolio with the launch of Shiner Texas Legend Straight Rye Whiskey.
Shiner Texas Legend Straight Rye Whiskey
First distilled in December 2023, this expression was made from a marriage of three rye-spice-forward barrels. It began with a mash bill of malted rye, yellow dent corn, and two-row barley. It was distilled in copper pot stills before being matured in heavy-char, level-one charred oak barrels in a single-story, open-air barrelhouse. The result is a 125.4 proof, non-chill-filtered rye whiskey that needs to be tasted to be believed.
According to K. Spoetzl, this soon-to-be highly coveted whiskey is centered on flavors like cinnamon candy, clove, citrus peels, sticky toffee, toasted vanilla beans, and gentle wintry spices.
“This release represents a defining moment for Shiner as we continue to evolve beyond brewing and establish our place in Texas whiskey,” Tom Fiorenzi, Director of Brewery and Distillery Operations, says.
“Bottling whiskey from our first rye distillation reflects the long-term vision we have for the distillery and the standards we’ve set from day one.”
