This year, popular Scotch whisky brand The Glendronach is celebrating its 200th birthday. Well-known for its sherry-forward releases, it’s a staple of bars and bar carts throughout the world. Back in 1826, the brand was founded by James Allardice on the Boynsmill Estate in the Scottish Highlands. To pay tribute to two centuries of whisky-making, the distillery is releasing a special release called The Glendronach Boynsmill House Edition.

The Glendronach Boynsmill House Edition

Made to pay homage to Boynsmill House, where Allardice was known to share whisky and revelry with guests, The Glendronach Boynsmill House Edition was matured for a minimum of 14 years in a combination of Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. Master Blender Dr Rachel Barrie and her team also selected a handful of whiskies matured in Claret red wine casks to elevate the whisky further.

According to The Glendronach, the result is a 93.6-proof single malt whisky that begins with aromas of dried fruits, candied nuts, sticky toffee pudding, stone fruit, and raisins. Sipping it reveals flavors of malts, dried fruits, nuts, chocolate, and caramelized sugar. The finish is mellow, smooth, caramel-sweet, and leaves you craving more. This expression is best enjoyed neat on a chilly summer or fall night.

“Created to mark The Glendronach’s 200th anniversary, Boynsmill House Edition captures the timeless charm of our Highland spirit and sherry cask mastery,” Dr Rachel Barrie says.

“In this expression, I find the character that has long made The Glendronach so distinctive: plush ripe malt, Highland toffee, bramble and raisin layered with subtle notes of stone fruit and plum, leading to a mellow, velvety finish. It is a richly rewarding whisky that honours the enduring character of the Valley of the Brambles while celebrating a remarkable moment in our history.”

Where can I buy it?

If you want to celebrate The Glendronach’s 200th birthday in style, you can do it now. The Glendronach Boynsmill House Edition is available at select whisky retailers throughout the US (and around the world) at a suggested retail price of $124.00 for a 750ml bottle.
