Penelope Bourbon is well-known for its blending, experimenting, and highly creative whiskeys. And while I’m all for uniquely aged and finished Kentucky straight bourbons and other whiskey styles, sometimes I want something simple and traditional. That’s why I was so excited when I heard about Penelope Bourbon’s Classic Series featuring Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey and Straight Rye Whiskey.

The Penelope Bourbon Classic Series

The Penelope Bourbon Classic Series was created to pay tribute to traditional whiskey-making and to help consumers enjoy bottles of whiskey every day, not just on special occasions or get-togethers with friends and family. Both whiskeys are 92-proof and crafted to be approachable, yet timeless.

Penelope Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey begins with a mash bill of 78% corn, 10% rye, and 12% barley malt. According to the brand, the result is a memorable, multi-layered bourbon that begins with scents of butterscotch, toasted vanilla beans, candied orange peels, and caramelized sugar. The palate is centered on flavors like brown sugar, sweet corn, cinnamon candy, and mint leaves. The finish is long, warm, and ends with hints of caramel, dark chocolate, and gentle spices.

Penelope Straight Rye Whiskey begins with a mash bill of 93% rye and 7% malted barley. According to Penelope, it begins with scents of spearmint and citrus zest. The palate features notes of rye spice and caramelized sugar. The finish is long, lingering, warm, with a  balanced, memorable ending.

“Since the beginning, our mission has always been to deliver the best possible whiskey to the consumer with every product we release,” Michael Paladini, Founder and Vice President of Strategy at Penelope Bourbon, says

“We didn’t always follow the traditional playbook, but we always prioritized quality above all else.  We’ve been talking about and working toward introducing Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey and Straight Rye Whiskey for a long time, but we wanted to make sure they were perfect before releasing them.”

Where can I buy them?

Both expressions will be available at select alcohol retailers in select markets. Penelope Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey will be available at a suggested retail price of $44.99, and Penelope Straight Rye Whiskey will be available at a suggested retail price of $34.99.

Stetson. You know the name. You proudly wear the hats. Now get to know its bourbon. America’s most iconic Western brand is launching Stetson Bourbon, touted as a “super-premium, high-rye proprietary blend distilled and bottled in Bardstown, Kentucky.” The brand, created in 1865 by John B. Stetson, who invented and perfected the cowboy hat, is bringing the same quality and craftsmanship to its bourbon, blended by Kentucky Master Blender Dan Callaway.

The launch has been a long time coming, resulting in a bottle and spirit worthy of the Stetson name. After a three-year journey of sourcing and tasting, Stetson found its ideal blender and two of the most respected bourbon producers in Kentucky, Green River Distilling Co. and Bardstown Bourbon Company.

Force of Nature is elevating the meat delivery game
Cookware, Skillet, Food

An old high school buddy recently hosted a boys’ weekend at his farm in Virginia. We spent two glorious days fishing, cooling off in swimming holes, and sipping whiskey at sunset. Before I headed back to New York, he sent me off with a box full of frozen venison. He had harvested the deer the previous fall, and a local game processor had turned it into sausages, backstrap, and steaks.

Back in Brooklyn, I seared the lean, ruby-red cutlets in French butter, spooned over a dollop of cherry jam, and paired them with a bottle of Daou Soul of a Lion. My girlfriend agreed: it was one of the finest—and healthiest—dinners I’ve ever cooked.

New tequila finished in mole-seasoned barrels celebrates two UNESCO-recognized Mexican traditions
Alcohol, Beverage, Liquor

A new limited-edition tequila is bringing together two of Mexico’s most celebrated cultural traditions in a single bottle. Reserva de la Familia, the luxury tequila brand from Jose Cuervo, has unveiled Private Cask Collection Edition No. 2: Mole Cask, the first tequila finished in mole-seasoned barrels.

The release highlights the deep connection between Mexico’s culinary and distilling heritage. The tequila begins its journey in the agave fields surrounding Tequila, Jalisco, a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized for its historic agave landscape and tequila production. It is then finished in barrels seasoned with mole, one of Mexico’s most iconic dishes and part of the country’s UNESCO-recognized Intangible Cultural Heritage of traditional cuisine.
