Maybe you’re like us, and you believe the best place to celebrate Cinco de Mayo is on your backyard deck while you munch on quesadillas or barbacoa tacos and sip Mexican lagers in between turbo-charged Margaritas. But, if you’re someone who would rather be knee deep in revelry, there are a lot of places in the US where you can have an epic Cinco de Mayo.

In my years of writing about alcohol, I’ve been lucky enough to travel to Mexico many times (including the Day of the Dead celebration) and sipped some truly outstanding tequilas along the way. I haven’t, however, ventured anywhere to celebrate Cinco de Mayo and, honestly, that’s a shame. Don’t be like me. Take a road trip to a city where you can immerse yourself in Mexican culture, music, food, and, yes, booze. This brings us to one question: where are the best Cinco de Mayo celebrations in the US?

Where are the best places to celebrate Cinco de Mayo?

Lucky for you, there are a handful of cities that go all out for Cinco de Mayo. You probably won’t be surprised to learn that some of the country’s biggest celebrations take place in areas with larger historically Mexican-American populations. This includes places like Los Angeles, San Antonio, and Albuquerque (among others).

Albuquerque

Visit Albuquerque’s Old Town Plaza for traditional dancers, Mariachi bands, Mexican art, and epic Mexican fare. There are also specials at restaurants throughout the city. Plus, you can stop by the ‘Breaking Bad’ house while you’re in town.

San Franciso

While there are events throughout the city, your best bet is to visit the Mission District. This is where you’ll find live music, traditional art, and massive burritos and other Mexican food.

Denver

Denver celebrates Cinco de Mayo with a massive festival at Civic Center Park. From May 2-3, you’ll find musical performances, a taco eating contest, countless Mexican food and drink vendors, and even a chihuahua race.

Los Angeles

If you only visit one city for Cinco de Mayo, make it LA. While the city has multiple Cinco de Mayo events, Fiesta Broadway is the can’t-miss party. The biggest Cinco de Mayo festival in the US features a mile-long stretch of music, dance, rides, and Mexican food and drinks.

San Antonio

If you’re anywhere near San Antonio this May, visit the city’s Historic Market Square for a tribute to the Battle of Puebla as well as mariachi bands, traditional dancers, and Mexican food and drinks.

New York City

If you’re on the East Coast, visit New York City and visit one of its many Cinco de Mayo Celebrations. One of the largest events is the Stone Street Fest, which features mariachi bands, street performers, outdoor bars, and Mexican food and drinks galore.

While many bourbon giants are pausing production, an independent Kentucky family is doing the opposite.
Barrel, cask, window

There's a particular kind of confidence required to build a brand-new distillery in 2026, as the bourbon industry is in the middle of a hard correction.

Jim Beam paused production at its flagship Clermont facility for the entire year, Kentucky warehouses are sitting on a record 16-plus million aging barrels, and U.S. whiskey distillers cut output sharply through 2025 as younger drinkers buy less and the boom-era oversupply works its way through the system.
