VERO and Shwood’s new Smokey Bear set pairs a watch with matching sunglasses

The collab from these two Portland brands supports U.S. Forest Service wildfire prevention.

VERO Watch Company and Shwood Eyewear, both based in Portland, Oregon, are teaming up to mark Smokey Bear’s 82nd birthday with a joint collector’s set.

The bundle pairs VERO’s Morning Sky Edition Smokey Bear watch with Shwood’s Auburn Wood Smokey Bear sunglasses, sold together as a single numbered piece rather than as two separate products.

The watch takes its orange dial and matte black case from vintage Smokey Bear campaign artwork, built from stainless steel with a matte black coating and a flat sapphire crystal. (Also, in case you were wondering, there’s officially no “the” in Smokey Bear — that definite article was added colloquially in 1952.)

Anyway, back to the watch: it’s a compact fellah at 38mm wide and 46mm lug-to-lug, made in Japan and running on a Seiko NH38A automatic movement with a 41-hour power reserve and 120-meter water resistance. It ships with both a black leather strap and a canvas NATO strap, backed by VERO’s 10-year, no-questions-asked warranty.

The sunglasses use Shwood’s signature dark walnut wood frames with grey polarized lenses and laser-engraved forest details on the temples, and come bundled with a Smokey Bear-branded sleeping bag accessory pouch, a hard travel case, and a paracord retainer.

Two Portland brands, one very specific bear

I like collabs like this precisely because neither brand is treating Smokey as a mascot slapped on just for the sake of it — both VERO and Shwood have built entire sub-lines around him for years now, and proceeds from every version have gone toward actual U.S. Forest Service wildfire prevention funding, not just good vibes.

VERO’s been building modern American field watches since 2015, and its Smokey Bear releases specifically have become one of the brand’s most consistent sellers, moving through past editions in bronze, blue, and stainless steel. Shwood’s been doing wood-frame sunglasses even longer, since 2009, and its own Smokey collection already spans multiple frame styles beyond this one.

Pairing the two together as one physical set, rather than just cross-promoting separately, makes sense — you’re not buying a watch that happens to have a sunglasses tie-in, you’re buying one complete kit built by two brands that already had their own individual takes on the same mascot.

Where to buy it

The VERO x Shwood Smokey Bear Collector’s Box Set is available now directly through VERO Watch Company for $775. It’s limited to 100 numbered sets, so once they’re gone, they’re gone.

BENRUS moves past reissues with its first original design in years
Watch, Strap, Dial

Every BENRUS watch since 2025 has been a rerun. The Type 3X is the first new episode. The American watchmaker founded in 1921 just dropped a brand-new, modern field watch built with input from former Tier One special-operations veterans.

It’s the first watch since the brand’s 2025 relaunch that isn’t a reissue of an old design: the Vietnam-era DTU-2A/P, the Type 1 and Type 2 favored by Navy SEALs and Special Forces, and the #3061 famously worn by Steve McQueen in “Bullitt.” The Type 3X breaks from that pattern entirely, built from scratch rather than pulled from an old catalog page.

TAG Heuer gives the Carrera Chronograph Sport a smaller, sharper redesign
Watches, Face, Dial

With Formula 1 arriving in Madrid this scorching summer, it is now apparently the perfect time for TAG Heuer to launch a super-hot, redesigned Carrera.

The La Chaux-de-Fonds-based watchmaker reworked the Carrera Chronograph Sport (its first real overhaul of the model since 2020), then included five new references. All of that lands alongside the launch of TAG Heuer’s title sponsorship of the Spanish Grand Prix, Formula 1’s first Madrid race since 1981.

A 200-year-old watch brand just relaunched with four new collections
Watch, Wrist, Dial

A Gallet stopwatch called “The Sun” once timed the Wright brothers’ first powered flight at Kitty Hawk in 1903.

Now, Gallet, the Swiss watchmaker founded in 1826 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, is back for its 200th anniversary, relaunched as a sibling brand to Breitling, which will manufacture every new watch.
