Luminox just released the Navy SEAL 3500 “Semper-Fortis,” a limited edition built around a message that only fully reveals itself once the sun goes down.
That new release is a big boy — a 45mm watch built on Luminox’s Navy SEAL 3500 series. It keeps the collection’s turtle-shaped case but also integrates more features from CARBONOX, the brand’s lightweight composite, than any Navy SEAL model before it: the case, the unidirectional rotating bezel, and bracelet are all built from it.
For this drop, the name is the whole concept. “Semper Fortis” is Latin for “Ever Strong,” a phrase long tied to the U.S. Navy. It sits between 8 and 11 o’clock on the stealth black dial, coated in Super-LumiNova, with the English translation, “Ever Strong,” printed in red just beneath it.
In daylight, the red translation is what reads. As the light fades, the glowing Latin phrase takes over. Kinda gimmicky? Perhaps. Also really cool? Hard to disagree.
Under the hood, it’s a Swiss-made Ronda 515 quartz movement, a screw-down crown, 200 meters of water resistance, and Luminox’s Light Technology tubes, rated to glow for up to 25 years.
The drop is limited to 775 individually numbered pieces, a nod to 1775, the year the U.S. Navy was founded.
Luminox has been busy lately
This is at least the fourth or fifth new Luminox release that we’ve covered in the past few months alone, on top of the Heritage Collection anniversary pieces and an interview with a Navy SEAL Luminox ambassador. Between the Adventure Watch’s vintage pivot, the all-steel Navy SEAL Foundation model, and now this, the brand’s been putting out new versions across nearly every corner of its lineup at a brisk pace that few other watchmakers match.
That’s not a criticism, by the way — Luminox isn’t a brand resting on its 30-plus-year Navy SEAL relationship. Instead, it’s actively exploring what that relationship can look like, whether that’s a dressier steel bracelet, a heritage-leaning field watch, or, here, a design built entirely around a single idea.
This here light-reveal trick isn’t new to watchmaking, but it’s rarely been used this literally. Most lume stuff is about legibility. This one is about just being nifty.
