A new Reebok collaboration honors the legacy of Kodak

Reebok and Kodak release a new collection steeped in nostalgia

There’s no doubt that footwear is key in remembering past eras and trends, but nothing can hold a memory quite like a photograph. One of the pioneers in that respect is undoubtedly Kodak, which has partnered with sports culture brand Reebok for a new look into the past. With the help of Kodak, Reebok is refreshing two of its classic silhouettes, the Club C 85 and the Classic Nylon. Besides the two new designs, the Reebok x Kodak collection also introduces a new apparel line featuring tees, pants, and crewnecks. “This capsule draws from that heritage piece and reimagines it for a new audience,” stated Clara Fort, vice president of global brand licensing at Kodak. “As Gen Z rediscovers Kodak film and creates buzz on social media, we’re blending nostalgia with modern style in a way that resonates with today’s consumers.”

Reebok and Kodak bring back nostalgia with a new collection

Full of special Kodak tributes throughout, the new collection between Reebok and Kodak tackles two of the sports brand’s most identifiable silhouettes: Club C 85 and the Classic Nylon. The Club C 85 involves taking the archival design and modernizing it for a new generation. Built with a textile upper and smooth layer overlays. Kodak branding is present throughout the upper, while a custom-branded woven label appears on the tongue. The exposed glue detailing and an aged midsole add a retro style to the design, while a graphic sock liner and tonal rubber outsole complete the look.

On the other hand, the Classic Nylon sneaker takes a different approach. A modern reinterpretation of the lifestyle sneaker, this design features a nylon upper with smooth suede overlays and leather side stripes. Kodak’s signature red branding and window box logo appear on the design, paying homage to the collaboration. Also appearing is the same custom-branded woven tongue label, exposed glue detailing, and aged midsole. Unlike the Club C 85, the Classic Nylon features a contrasting rubber outsole. Both designs, along with the apparel collection, are set to hit the Reebok web store and select retailers on September 30 at 10 AM EST. The Club C 85 will retail for $100, while the Classic Nylon is set to be priced at $90.

What sailors in the Race to Mackinac, America’s oldest freshwater race, wear on their wrists
The race from Chicago to Mackinac Island is a days-long battle against the Great Lakes. In that kind of contest, you need a watch as tough as the job.
Boat, Sailboat, Transportation

The Race to Mackinac has been run since 1898, when five boats set out from Chicago. Today it covers 333 statute miles up Lake Michigan, crosses into Lake Huron at the Straits of Mackinac, and finishes off Mackinac Island — and it is not an easy voyage. It is also not a gentle one. Sustained gales flattened big chunks of the fleet in 1911, 1937, and 1970, and after a deadly storm in 2011, the Mac's reputation for danger stopped being theoretical. The fastest boats finish absurdly quickly now, with an all-time record of 18 hours and 50 minutes set back in 1998, but most crews are out there for two or three nights. The sailors alternate, sleeping in shifts of four hours each, until they (hopefully) make land.

It might seem tough to imagine doing that once — now, try doing it two dozen more. For those who make the journey at least 25 times, the prize is entry into the Island Goats Sailing Society, founded in 1959 and now several hundred strong. Rack up 25 Chicago Macs and 25 from Port Huron, and you become a Double Goat. The nickname, as the story goes, comes from the aroma a crew carries after days at sea with no shower. All things considered, this is a tough, electric, occasionally dangerous race. The Chicago Yacht Club hosts the race annually in mid-July, and that's exactly where I went to look at watches.
