Feel Good Friday: Warriors & Quiet Waters

warriors and quiet waters
Most of us will never see the battlefield. That’s because the brave men and women of our volunteer military sacrifice their time, comfort, and even their lives to make sure of that. The next time you’re enjoying one of America’s beautiful wide open spaces, take advantage of the sublime stillness and reflect on the brave men and women who endured hostile environments so you could enjoy this peaceful one.

War is a hard business — but for some, coming home is even harder. The emotional and physical scars make adjusting to civilian life a daunting prospect, and thousands of soldiers can’t make it on their own. If you’re interested in going a step beyond quiet reflection, consider supporting organizations like the Warriors & Quiet Waters Foundation, which helps injured soldiers reintegrate into society through fly fishing the calm waters of Southwestern Montana.

Simms, a fishing company, has teamed up with Warriors & Quiet Waters Foundation to create a sophisticated, limited edition G3 Guide Wader. This wader boasts high-tech GORE-TEX, micro-fleece lining, tool pockets and tabs, and more. Perhaps the best part is that the funds raised from the sale of these waders goes straight to the Warriors & Quiet Waters Foundation — Simms’ goal is $100,000.     SIMMS-WQW-G3-Guide_burned

Since 2007, Warriors & Quiet Waters has helped 470 soldiers and their spouses find peace in the calm beauty of Southwestern Montana. Simms has been by their side the whole time, and has even gone so far as to host each of the organization’s week-long fishing expeditions.

Considering the tens of thousands of physically and emotionally injured soldiers in this country, there’s clearly work to be done. Still, organizations like Warriors & Quiet Waters are working hard to help soldiers find the beautiful tranquility they deserve. If you’re looking for a way to enjoy the fruits of these soldiers’ efforts while simultaneously supporting their readjustment into society, consider getting a pair of limited edition waders and taking them for a dip at your favorite fishing spot.

When you buy most of your products, odds are you’re thinking about yourself -- and that’s totally fine. You are, after all, just another bag of bones trying to make it on this planet; it’s OK to be a little selfish. However, what if the basic items you purchased for yourself could also help make the world a better place?

As it turns out, they can! Well, at least a couple items can, thanks to The THX Co. -- a Miami-based social enterprise that gives 100% of its profits to non-profit organizations. At the moment, THX just sells coffee and fragrances for men and women; an odd combo, perhaps, but they’ve got to start somewhere.

Feel Good Friday: FREY Laundry Detergent for Men

If your perception of reality were rooted in television commercials, you might assume that men are incapable of doing laundry. We’ve seen the same laundry detergent commercial since the dawn of commercials: A young mom, arms akimbo, sighs and shakes her head as she beholds a child’s dirt-covered soccer jersey or juice-stained shirt. It’s 2016: Maybe it’s finally time to market laundry detergent to men -- encourage fellas to do the laundry for a change.

That’s precisely the thinking behind FREY, the first laundry detergent for men. Deemed “designer-label safe,” FREY is ideally suited to cleaning classy men’s garments without inflicting damage. And instead of imbuing clothing with a vaguely chemical scent, FREY leaves a classically masculine oak and musk scent.

Feel Good Friday: The 30-Year Sweatshirt

In recent years, Western consumers have become absolutely spoiled by a sea of cheap products. Yes, cheap items are good for the pocketbook, but they’re not so great for the environment. The garment industry is one of the worst offenders, pumping out untold billions of cheap articles that promptly fall apart, leading consumers to buy more cheap garments -- and so the cycle churns on and on.

Instead of encouraging the wasteful, gargantuan garment industry, we urge our readers to seek out high-quality garments that last, thereby issuing a sharp rebuke of waste and ghastly working conditions. One such high-quality garment is the 30-Year Sweatshirt, made by British entrepreneur Tom Cridland. As the name suggests, this sweatshirt is guaranteed to keep its owner warm and stylish for at least 30 years. Seriously, if your 30-Year Sweatshirt is in any way compromised during its first three decades, you can send it back for repairs, free of charge.
