Recovery gear is probably the most unexciting overlanding gear to shop for, but it’s literally the most important. If your portable fridge, Starlink Mini, or digital camera dies out in the backcountry, it’s no great shakes. But if you blow a tire, get bogged in mud, or wake up to a dead battery, you could be literally stuck in the middle of nowhere. Noco has you covered on the battery front with its flagship GB70 portable jump starter.
The portable, 2,000-amp lithium-ion battery pack delivers a serious dose of juice that’s strong enough to jump-start gas engines up to eight liters and diesel engines up to six liters. It’s designed to work with the 12-volt batteries most commonly found in cars, trucks, SUVs, boats, and RVs. Built-in reverse polarity protection ensures it’s smart enough to detect when you’ve potentially hooked up the charging cables the wrong way ’round, keeping both you and your vehicle safe.

It’s all packed into a compact, five-pound housing that’s IP65-rated, meaning it’s water-resistant and plenty rugged enough for overlanding use in the backcountry. Integrated into the case are USB-A and 12-volt (cigarette lighter-style) ports for charging smartphones and other small electronics on the go. As a bonus, there’s also a 400-lumen LED flashlight with multiple light modes, so it works as both a task light and a strobe/SOS light in an emergency.
The Noco GB70 portable jump starter is available now for around $200 with multiple cables and a soft carrying case to keep it all protected in the back of your rig.
