Mendocino Cove opens on California’s coast with pickleball, wellness, and oceanfront suites

New boutique resort brings wellness and coastal luxury to Mendocino

Northern California’s rugged coastline has a new place to stay. Mendocino Cove officially opens Aug. 1, transforming the former Pine Beach Inn into a boutique coastal retreat designed for travelers looking to slow down and reconnect with nature.

Created by Teresa Raffo and Chris Hougie, the team behind the popular Mendocino Grove glamping resort, the 40-suite property sits on 11 oceanfront acres just six miles north of the village of Mendocino. The resort blends contemporary design with the area’s natural beauty, offering sweeping Pacific Ocean views, towering cypress trees, and direct access to secluded Pine Beach.

The founders say the vision was to create a destination where guests can embrace the slower pace of the Mendocino Coast while enjoying thoughtful amenities that encourage both relaxation and outdoor adventure.

Wellness, pickleball, and coastal dining take center stage

Mendocino Cove features 40 suites spread across two buildings, Cypress and Vista Cove, each offering a modern coastal aesthetic with warm wood finishes, natural textures, fireplaces, soaking tubs, and private verandas overlooking the gardens or coastline.

Wellness is a major focus throughout the property. Guests can unwind in the Nordic-inspired spa, complete with a hot tub, dry sauna, and cold pour, or book massage treatments after a day outdoors. The resort also includes a meditation labyrinth nestled among the redwoods, communal fire pits, lawn games, and easy access to nearby hiking trails.

One of the property’s standout features is its eight professional pickleball courts. The courts will host open play, lessons, clinics, retreats, and social events for players of all skill levels, making the resort an appealing destination for travelers who want to combine wellness with recreation.

Dining centers around Frolic, the resort’s new restaurant and gathering space overlooking the coastal meadow. Guests can enjoy coffee and breakfast when the property opens, with a full bar and tapas menu planned for later this fall.

A new study has revealed that Paris is the most Instagrammable place for autumn travel. Having been there myself — albeit, in the winter — I can see why. The September 2026 study on the most Instagrammable places for autumn travel was conducted by Duel.com, which looked at how many Instagram hashtags each city has, along with the number of sights and landmarks available to photograph. It also measured average September temperatures and the overall cost of a trip. Each city was scored out of 100, revealing the best cities for travelers looking for the right angle and backdrop.
