Marriott International has announced plans to open the world’s first Autograph Collection safari camp deep in Tanzania’s Serengeti. Slated to welcome guests in the third quarter of 2025, the Mapito Safari Camp, Serengeti, Autograph Collection promises an immersive retreat set along the path of the Great Migration, one of the most amazing wildlife spectacles on Earth.

Featuring 15 tented suites, including a two-bedroom villa, the camp will offer guests the rare chance to stargaze beneath retractable roofs, unwind by private fire pits, and dine under open skies at ‘The Boma,’ a communal restaurant inspired by traditional bonfire gatherings.

Rooted in the local Ikoma culture and designed with sustainability in mind, Mapito Safari Camp aims to set a new standard for experiential travel, where conservation, culture, and comfort meet under the Serengeti sun.

“Mapito Safari Camp will mark a defining moment for Autograph Collection as we introduce the brand’s first safari experience in one of the world’s most breathtaking wildlife destinations,” said Jerome Briet, Chief Development Officer, Europe, Middle East & Africa, Marriott International. “The Serengeti’s scale, beauty, and cultural heritage will make an unforgettable setting for a property that will embody the individuality and character that Autograph Collection is known for.”

Immersive experiences and wildlife viewing

Set at the Fort Ikoma gate of Serengeti National Park, Mapito Safari Camp offers prime access to one of the most biodiverse corners of Tanzania. Situated between the Central Serengeti and the western migration corridor, the camp sits directly along the path of the Great Migration. From May through July, guests have front-row seats as waves of wildebeest, zebra, and antelope migrate across the plains. But the show doesn’t stop there: lions, elephants, leopards, buffalo, and giraffes roam the region year-round, making for incredible sightings in every season.

Beyond the views, the camp offers a host of luxurious amenities including an outdoor pool, fitness center, bar, and complimentary Wi-Fi. You can also enjoy curated experiences like early morning and evening game drives, night safaris that reveal the Serengeti’s nocturnal life, guided walking safaris, hot air balloon rides, and bush dinners under the stars. Guests can also engage meaningfully with the Ikoma tribe to learn more about the area’s culture and connection to the land.

Per the hotel’s website, availability begins in late August with nightly rates starting at $1,882.

Some trips spend years on your wish list before they finally happen. Copenhagen was one of those destinations for us. We had talked about visiting Denmark for years, drawn by its reputation for clean design, remarkable quality of life, and a city where bicycles outnumber automobiles. And, in the summer, everyone is living outside and basking in the sun. Expedia just released its latest set of data: The 2026 Island Hot List, a trending list that compiles the emerging islands travelers are searching for before they become the next big thing. According to the newExpedia data, interest in these rising island destinations is up 55% on average year-over-year, while social media mentions have climbed 20% as travelers look for new experiences, better value, and fewer crowds. If you ask me, this is pretty surprising to hear it’s up 55%, especially when I thought islands were already one of the most popular year-round travel destinations.

Ranked #1 on Expedia’s 2026 Island Hot List is St. Lucia, an island I first fell in love with back in 2023 when I went on my honeymoon there. Once you visit here, it’s pretty easy to see why it’s ranked the best for romantic escapes. This destination has been a popular spot for anniversary and honeymoon trips for a long time now — and it doesn’t appear to be slowing down. As travelers move beyond crowded Caribbean hotspots, many are willing to take the extra trek to destinations like St. Lucia for it’s dramatic scenery, romantic resort options like Sugar Beach, and soft adventure focus.
