Michael Tunney has a knack for solving everyday problems. Case in point: the bulky key ring he used to carry his pocket. He hated dealing with that monstrosity, so he developed a more streamlined approach. It’s called KeySmart and it’s taking the market by storm.
He spent long nights developing the prototype and then quit his job as a robotics engineer to follow his passion of product design. KeySmart got its start on Kickstarter in May 2013 and is one of the most successful products launched to date. The initial goal was $6,000, but backers quickly bought into the idea of KeySmart. The campaign brought in 8,900 backers who pledged $329,862.
This swiss army style key holder can fit up to 100 keys, but it can also be adapted to include a USB flash drive. USB options include 8, 16, or 64 gb. It comes in a variety of colors, but KeySmart Black is leading the pack in popularity. The compact design makes it easy to carry and it’s really simple to add on or swap out keys – just use a coin to unscrew the bolt and then put your keys in place. Expander packs are available for $1.98.
“We have a few new accessories in the works including a bottle opener and a pocket clip,” says Tunney. “We’re also on our second version of KeySmart. We’ve taken our customers’ input and suggested improvements from KeySmart 1 and perfected the design of KeySmart 2.
KeySmart 2.0 sells for $19.98, the expanded version sells for $20.98, and the titanium 2.0 goes for $59.98.
