When it comes to their skincare routines, some guys get a little lazy every now and then. (Sheepishly raises hand.) We’re always looking for shortcuts, and sometimes, our search takes us to potential men’s skincare hacks.
Time-saving options tend to be in short supply, though, so it’s always a pleasant surprise when we find one that works. That’s especially the case with Dream Mouth Tape Plus, which actually allows men to do skin care in their sleep.
Skincare while you sleep
We’ll start by talking about sleep tape. It’s been around for a while, and it even had a moment on TikTok back in 2023. Like many health hacks that make their illustrious debut on that site, though, sleep tape quickly faded into the unique ether that’s part and parcel of the TikTok ecosystem.
But that doesn’t mean sleep tape doesn’t work. Many people have used it to improve their sleep quality, and infusing sleep tape with ingredients like B vitamins, a vegan version of collagen, vitamin E, CoQ10, and aloe vera is a game changer. Dream Recovery did this with a unique sleep tape called Dream Tape Plus, which was introduced last July, and it definitely offers a unique way to do skincare while you sleep.
The skinny on sleep tape
So, how does this tape work? The blunt-force explanation is that you basically tape your mouth shut with this product when you go to bed, and infused skincare products do their work while you catch your zzz’s.
If you’ve never used sleep tape before, you’re probably blanching a little at the thought, so let’s go a little further into how and why it works.
The idea behind taping your mouth shut is that it stops you from mouth-breathing like one of our Neanderthal or Cro-Magnon ancestors. This, in turn, forces nasal breathing, which can stop snoring, and that can be invaluable to both the snorer and the snorer (i.e., the person sharing the bed). The added benefit with Dream Tape Plus is that it also helps reduces and prevents wrinkles, according to the folks at Dream Recovery.
As someone who’s tried sleep tape, I can verify that individual results will definitely vary, but I definitely got some benefits when I tried Dream Tape Plus. I’m normally a light, fitful sleeper, and sleep tape definitely improved the quality of my sleep. It wasn’t entirely without glitches, though—I woke up briefly a couple of times during the night, which isn’t exactly new for me—but I was able to get back to sleep quickly and easily.
A deeper dive into the skincare part of the test
The skincare benefits happened, too, but these are subtle, as you might expect. It’s not the same as applying a cream or using a specialized face wash, but I have noticed that my facial skin felt smoother and more supple the next morning. As I used Dream Tape Plus more, the difference grew more noticeable, which is always a good sign. As a result, I’ve become a Dream Tape Plus convert—maybe not every single night, but I’m definitely on board as a regular user.
Before you join me and become a convert, consider a couple of reasonable caveats. Dream Tape Plus is more expensive than some of the budget sleep tapes on the market, partially because of the skin care additions, but also because it’s a quality product that’s well made, e.g., the spandex tape fits easily and seamlessly over your mouth. This tape costs $44 a month for 30 tapes, but you can save five bucks on that rate with a subscription.
Other caveats: This sleep tape definitely isn’t for children under 12, and it’s not recommended for those with sleep apnea. It’s not a great fit for men wearing a woolly-mammoth beard, or any other facial hair that congregates around the mouth area, for that matter.
It does take some getting used to, but if you’re looking for a unique way to get skincare benefits while you slumber from compounds that have a good track record, Dream Tape Plus is definitely worth a go. There’s a good chance you could sleep better, and wake up with better skin after you’re done hitting the snooze alarm.
