xBloom, a brand known for its high-tech, specialty coffee machines with all-in-one integration, is marking its fifth anniversary with a new color drop for xBloom Studio. Launched earlier this month, the Offline Blue color is built around “Disconnect to Reconnect”, an invitation to step out of the constant stream of digital life and give your attention to something tangible.

“Technology should make it easier to brew a great cup of coffee without taking away the pleasure of being part of the process. Offline Blue is about that balance. It draws inspiration from the digital world, but we also hope it reminds you to set aside a few minutes for the cup in front of you,” says Richard Xu, CEO of xBloom.

Key Features of xBloom Studio

The xBloom Studio is the ultimate machine for specialty coffee and coffee nerds like myself, with a grinder, brewer, and scale seamlessly integrated into a single design. Some top features of this 5-in-1 brewing system include:

  • All-Purpose Grinder: 48mm conical burr grinder with 80 grind-size settings. The grinder auto-adjusts to any grind size, from espresso to cold brew, with ease and precision.
  • Kinematic Brewer: The kinematic spout ensures a consistent, directional flow onto the coffee bed, with three programmable pour patterns (center, spiral, circular)
  • High Precision Scale: The kinematic spout ensures a consistent, directional flow onto the coffee bed. Built-in drip tray, Removable and dishwasher-safe.

More saturated and vivid than Studio’s existing Midnight Black, Moonlight White, and Twilight finishes, the newly launched Offline Blue color draws on late-night screen glow, the optimism of the early internet, and creative spaces where technology and design meet. If blue as a color has traditionally represented calm, Offline Blue is about choosing where to place your attention. In a day filled with incoming information, it reminds you to set distractions aside for a moment and focus on what is in front of you. That idea is at the heart of “Disconnect to Reconnect”

Cedar Ridge Portside II gives Iowa bourbon the port cask treatment
Whiskey, Bottle, Barrel

Cedar Ridge has spent years running its single malt through just about every cask it can find. Now it’s trying the same trick on its bourbon.

The distillery based out of Swisher, Iowa (and the state’s first licensed distillery since Prohibition, FYI) has just released Portside II, a limited, small-batch Iowa bourbon built on the idea behind its 2023 QuintEssential Special Release Portside.

Whiskey-based cocktails to make this autumn

Fall arrives like a blanket of red, gold, and orange leaves. It’s a time for warm sweaters, long pants, short days, and long nights. The air is getting crisper, and the ever-present aroma of a backyard campfire wafts from somewhere nearby. If you live somewhere that actually has seasons, it’s a beautiful time of year before the eventuality of snow. It’s also the perfect time to start shaking and stirring up warming whiskey-based cocktails.

In my years of writing about alcohol, I’ve found that there’s no better season for whiskey than autumn. Sure, winter has its place when it comes to drams of single malt Scotch whisky, bourbon, and rye. But fall is when temperatures can range from summery to frigid from day to day. If you ask me, that’s the best weather for whiskey drinks.
