Based in Tucson, Arizona, Whiskey Del Bac is pretty far from the thoroughbred-filled, bourbon-drenched state of Kentucky. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t producing some outstanding whiskey expressions. While it’s most well-known for Dorado, it’s popular mesquite-smoked American single malt whiskey, recently the brand announced the launch of a new desert-themed bourbon.
Whiskey Del Bac Sentinel of the Desert Bourbon

Sentinel of the Desert Bourbon by Whiskey Del Bac is a blend of two and three-year-old bourbons distilled and aged in Ohio. The blend consists of a mash bill of 60% yellow corn, 35% pumpernickel rye, and 5% heritage malt mash. It’s finished on Whiskey Del Bac mesquited barrel staves before being filtered across mesquite charcoal from the brand’s mesquited malting process using what they refer to as the Pima County Process.
According to the brand, the result is a mellow whiskey that begins with a nose of oak, and smoked apple pie. Sipping it reveals notes of mesquite smoke and toasted vanilla beans.
“When we launched the Sentinel of the Desert brand in 2022 with our sourced-but-finished straight rye whiskey, the immediate question from our customers was – ‘When will we see a bourbon?’” Master Distiller & Blender Mark A. Vierthaler says. “Like everything we do here at Whiskey Del Bac, we knew we needed to be purposeful, thoughtful, and transparent. And, of course, it needed to be delicious.”
Where can I buy it?

Bottled at 92-proof, this blended bourbon is currently available at the distillery in Tucson and at select retailers in Arizona, Colorado, California, and Nevada for the suggested retail price of $40 for a 750ml bottle.
