You might not have heard about The Maven Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, and that’s likely because it literally just launched. But it’s not just a random whiskey with no track record or accolades to prove it’s worth buying. As it makes its official release, The Maven is already a 99-point, Double Gold award-winning whiskey.
The Maven Kentucky Straight Bourbon

After a decade of planning by Master Distiller Kevin Curtis, Master Blender Steve Hughes, Associate Master Blender Ashley Moore, and their team, The Maven officially launched this week. This renowned whiskey blends whiskeys aged their full term (at least 7 years) in toasted American oak, along with whiskeys first matured in traditional charred oak barrels and finished in unique, toasted rare oak casks. The blend includes traditional American oak, Kentucky’s own Chinkapin oak, Pacific Northwest Garryana, French oak, and Mizunara imported from Hokkaido, Japan.
According to the brand, the result is a memorable, balanced 94-proof bourbon that begins with aromas of apricots, orchard fruits, graham crackers, toasted coconut, crème brûlée, and dark chocolate-covered almonds. The palate is centered on notes of dried stone fruit, caramelized vanilla, toasted almond, bittersweet chocolate, and warming gingerbread spice. The finish is lingering and warm, ending with a mix of dark chocolate, toasted coconut, caramelized sugar, and toasted oak. It’s best enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or with a splash of water.
“With The Maven, we set out to move beyond the singular mindset that has defined the bourbon category for most of my career,” The Maven Master Blender Steve Hughes says.
“We built a library spanning different mash bills, whiskey styles, barrel types, and oak profiles, giving us an entirely new palette to work from. That breadth lets us layer flavor to achieve a level of complexity we hadn’t explored before. Blending became less an act of combination than an act of discovery.”
