Oaklore is launching a four-grain bourbon for fans of sherry

North Carolina-based Oaklore Distilling Co. recently announced the launch of the newest release in its popular Story Series. Following the release of its Port Cask Finish Rye Whiskey earlier in the year, the brand is adding to the series by releasing a new, sherry cask finished expression.

Oaklore Story Series: Oloroso Sherry Cask Finished Four Grain Bourbon

Only 750 bottles of this limited release will be made available to the public. Bottled at 95-proof, this non-chill filtered bourbon is a blend of five to six-year-old barrels of wheated bourbon and rye bourbon mas bills. After batching together, the expression has a final mash bill of 70% corn, 10% rye, 10% wheat, and 10% malted barley. After batching and additional aging, it was finishing in Spanish Oloroso Sherry Casks for twelve to eighteen months.

According to Oaklore, aging in sherry casks adds flavors like dried figs, raisins, vintage wine, cherry bark, cocoa, apricot, and a dry sherry finish.

“National Bourbon Heritage Month feels like as good a time as ever for folks to try a smaller American Whiskey that represents a lesser known, but emerging whiskey-producing state like North Carolina – whether that’s our original Four Grain Bourbon or this special Oloroso Sherry Finished Cask Finished expression,” Oaklore Co-Founder and Master Blender Tom Bogan says.

Where can I buy it?

This limited-edition expression is available for purchase at Oaklore’s online ship, the brand’s tasting room, and select whiskey retailers in North Carolina for the suggested retail price of $99.95 for a 750ml bottle. Starting this week, 90 bottles will be available online at https://shop.oakloredistilling.com/.

The best beers from California you can buy anywhere
California is more than just IPAs
Sierra Nevada

Currently, more than 9,000 breweries of all sizes operate in the US. That’s an awful lot of IPAs, stouts, and lagers to choose from. Some states are more saturated with breweries (per capita) than others. This includes places like Vermont, Colorado, Maine, Oregon, and, of course, California. While I could take a deep dive into all the biggest beer-producing states, today is all about The Golden State.

I have a special affinity for California beer, and it’s because of one style in particular. Sure, you can find a beer style to fit every palate in the state, but in California, the IPA reigns supreme. In fact, if you look at almost any list ranking the best beers in the state, it will be littered with IPA options. While I often imbibe pilsners and other lagers (as well as wheat beers and other lighter beers) in the summer as well as stouts and porters (and other dark beers) in the winter, I always go back to the classic West Coast IPA.
