A good drink can sum up a sumptuous place in a glass. Just ask a crisp New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc or a hoppy west coast IPA beer. There’s a sense of place in the things we sip (or at least there ought to be).
Presently, we have the Old World on the mind. Maybe we’re still dreaming out spring break, perhaps we just love la dolce vita. Regardless, it’s the subject of the following sipper.
We’ve got a drink that celebrates a large cultural exhibition taking place in Italy. It’s the official cocktail of La Biennale di Venezia, an arts event kicking off at the end of this month and touching on all kinds of disciplines, from architecture to music. As though you need another reason to visit Italy.
But if you can’t make it to the Mediterranean, that’s alright. You work on your resort cocktail recipes at home, impressing your guests along the way.
The following drink is the result of a team-up between Quattro Gatti Gin and the St. Regis Venice bar staff. Read on for details.
The Reflection

A relatively simple drink, this one blends four ingredients to create a harmonious drink reminiscent of the canals of Venice. Bonus points for squeezing your own grapefruit and adding to some plain tonic.
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 ounces Quattro Gatti Olive Grove Gin
- 3/4 ounce hibiscus syrup
- 1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
- 2–3 ounces pink grapefruit soda (to top)
Method:
- Combine all ingredients in a tall glass with ice and stir.
- Top with soda (and add optional floral garnish).
