Halloween is right around the corner, as is Dia de Los Muertos, making it a great time for a good fall cocktail recipe. We’re toasting autumn’s majesty and cozying up to some deftly-made drinks. Our latest interest resides in a cocktail featuring a unique bourbon and some Italian flair.
The world of whiskey is a wide one. For bourbon, the grain bill can range a lot, which in turn affects the aroma and flavor. Go with rye, and you might get some spice. Go with wheat, and you end up with something often a little smoother and sweeter.
We’re already aware of the nice matchup that is Aperol and tequila. We’re less aware of how the Italian liqueur works with bourbon. Until now.
Here’s a great recipe from Middle West Spirits out of Ohio.
Ready for Takeoff
Four ingredients in equal parts lead to a lovely drink here. Don’t forget to use fresh lemon juice and test your craft skills out by making a proper garnish.
Ingredients:
- 3/4 ounce Middle West Spirits Michelone Reserve Straight Wheated Bourbon
- 3/4 ounce Amaro Nonino
- 3/4 ounce Aperol
- 3/4 ounce lemon juice
- Miniature paper plane for garnish
Method:
- Combine all ingredients in tin, shake well, and strain over ice in a Nick & Nora glass.
- Garnish with a miniature paper plane and expressed lemon peel.
