If you’re a fan of double barrel whiskeys, you’ll be excited to learn that the folks at Iowa’s Cedar Ridge Distillery, under the direction of Master Distiller Murphy Quint, are set to release the 2025 Double Barrel Bourbon and Double Barrel Rye Expressions.

2025 Cedar Ridge Double expressions

These expressions might be limited, but they will be available at select whiskey retailers throughout the US beginning on November 7th. Now for some details on each. The annual release of Double Barrel Bourbon begins with a mash bill of 74% corn, 14% rye, and 12% malted barley. It begins as the brand’s Cedar Ridge Flagship Iowa Bourbon before being transferred to a second, new American oak barrels. This results in a memorable 105-proof bourbon.

The Limited Release Double Barrel Rye begins with a mash bill of 85% rye, 12% corn, and 3% malted barley.  It starts as Cedar Ridge Straight Rye Whiskey. It’s added to a second, new American oak barrel with freshly charred oak staves. The final product is a multi-layered expression that features a bold 105-proof.

“This is one of the most anticipated releases we work on each year,” Quint says.

“Both releases show off our Iowa whiskeys in a unique way and shine the spotlight on our finishing technique,” he added. Both the Double Barrel Bourbon and Double Barrel Rye were finished in second New American Oak Cask.

Where can I buy them?

Both limited-edition expressions are available at select whiskey retailers nationwide and online for the suggested retail price of $59.99.

The best non-alcoholic fall beers to celebrate Sober October
Deschutes

Dry January might be the most popular month for taking a break from alcohol, but Sober October is a close second. If you’re spending this month sans alcohol and you’re getting tired of simply drinking sparkling water, there are options aplenty, especially if you’re usually a beer drinker.

If you didn’t know it already, the non-alcoholic beer world has improved a lot in the last decade. When I first started writing about alcohol twenty years ago, I wrote an article where I taste-tested NA beers and the results were fairly brutal. While I won’t name the beers, pretty much all were fizzy, yellow, and at best fairly flavorless. In essence, they didn’t really taste like beer. That’s definitely not the same today. It’s a whole new world of non-alcoholic beer.

Tom Brady-backed Hero launches low-carb pasta for National Pasta Month
Hero

October is National Pasta Month — and if you ask me, it’s not getting nearly enough hype. There’s never a bad time for pasta, but the high carbohydrate content can keep people running the other way. Luckily, Hero has us covered, bringing back pasta night with three new low-carb pasta shapes. Backed by celeb athletes like Tom Brady and Kevin Durant, the Hero Pasta collection now includes Elbow Macaroni, Penne and Mini Spirals. All three deliver the taste, texture, and bite of traditional pasta with a fraction of the carbs.

Every box of Hero Noodles has the same nutrition profile: 5g net carbs, 0g sugar, 32g fiber, 12g plant-based protein, and 80 calories per serving. With over 40,000 5-star reviews, Hero has shown that pasta lovers no longer have to settle for pea-based noodles, spaghetti squash, or cauliflower stand-ins. For someone like me who has followed a generally low-carb diet for years, innovations like Hero’s low-carb noodles are a true game changer (and make it possible to enjoy National Pasta Month just like everyone else).
