Timex has announced the third collaborative release between Timex and The James Brand; a watch called the Automatic GMT Nocturne Edition in a 41mm stainless steel case that includes a carbon fiber dial and crown. This watch will use the Miyota 9075 automatic GMT movement to allow for the ability to adjust the local hour hand independently (without affecting the watch’s timekeeping) and will be limited to 1,000 individually-numbered pieces produced globally, selling for $749. This represents the most advanced collaboration by Timex with The James Brand, a daily carry manufacturer based in Oregon.
The sandblasted stainless steel case is contrasted with a textured carbon fiber on the dial and crown. The watch includes a ceramic bezel insert with a 24-hour index. The watch also features sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating to protect the dial, and the hands and markers are filled with C3 Super-LumiNova for low-light visibility. The watch can be submerged to depths of 200 meters due to the sealant used in the construction of the case.
The James Brand states that the Nocturne is its most refined interpretation to date and that it was developed using black colors and carbon textures to achieve its design philosophy through a complete case design development from scratch.
The Miyota 9075 movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and contains 24 jewels. The movement stores 42 hours of power reserve. The Miyota 9075 movement became popular among the DIY watch-building community for providing GMT functionality at a lower cost than had been possible before.
In addition to being included in the Automatic GMT Nocturne Edition, the Miyota 9075 movement is also found in the Bulova Classic Wilton automatic GMT watch released in 2022. The unidirectional rotating bezel of the Automatic GMT Nocturne Edition serves as a second reference for tracking a second time zone.
The Automatic GMT Nocturne Edition is equipped with Timex’s new I-Size adjustable bracelet system that allows for the ability to make adjustments to the size of the watch on your wrist using tools. Additionally, a two-piece fabric strap is provided as a wearable alternative option.
Preorders for the Automatic GMT Nocturne Edition were open this week and deliveries will take place over the next few weeks via The James Brand website and select retailers.
This watch will sell for $749 which places it above Timex’s base-level GMT models such as the Expedition GMT Titanium Automatic model that sells for $599. The James Brand emphasizes the quality of the case construction and the fact that the entire case was redesigned, which they believe justify the higher price.
