TAG Heuer just announced the second Carrera collaboration with Team Ikuzawa and Bamford Watch Department, three years after their first one together — and this time, they went back to a stopwatch.
The watch is built on TAG Heuer’s 39mm Carrera Glassbox, the modern take on the original 1963 Carrera that swaps a bezel for a highly domed sapphire crystal. But the design here pulls specifically from the Heuer Roadmaster, a vintage timing stopwatch Team Ikuzawa used trackside through the ’70s and ’80s, not from any particular car or race.
The dial is white with a Clou de Paris texture (a pyramid-stud pattern that resembles knurling on a barbell). It also has printed indexes for a graphic, stopwatch-like read, and red accents everywhere — hands, chronograph seconds, date wheel.
Team Ikuzawa’s signature sits at 6 o’clock, in the space that would normally hold a running-seconds subdial, since the watch skips that function entirely.
Inside is TAG Heuer’s in-house Caliber TH20-10, an automatic chronograph with 80 hours of power reserve and chronometer certification, visible through a caseback stamped with Team Ikuzawa and Bamford Watch Department branding. It comes on a steel bracelet, plus a white textile strap and a white perforated leather racing strap.
Porsche’s fingerprints are all over this one
The lore here runs deep: Tetsu Ikuzawa, the man behind Team Ikuzawa, spent years as part of Porsche’s factory endurance program, racing at Le Mans. Mai Ikuzawa, his daughter, has spent the years since turning that pedigree into something beyond motorsport.
TAG Heuer’s had a busy stretch lately too: an F1 tie-in with the sport itself as official timekeeper, a Goodwood Festival of Speed partnership, the title sponsorship at the Monaco Grand Prix.
It’s also worth putting next to Union Glashütte’s new Averin Chronograph for the Sachsen Classic rally, which came out of a similar design space. Instead of leaning on an F1 sponsorship the way most watch brands do right now, both companies went looking for a specific piece of racing history with a great heritage.
