Rockefeller Center is one of the, pardon the pun, centers of New York City. It is one of the places people make sure they see when they visit the city. It is also the place that many locals pick and choose times to visit (or even walk by) due to the high tourist presence. But this weekend is the perfect time for all people in New York City, native or otherwise, to take a walk by the iconic square, as Ralph Lauren has elevated their Olympic sponsorship by creating a once-every-four-year experience including Olympians, ice sculptures, and all the hot chocolate you could drink. Among the athletes available for comment was short track speed skating legend Maame Biney. Who gave us a peek into her memories of her Olympic career and what is next.
My fondest memories would have to be when I was able to watch the other sports, like snowboarding and skiing. I have a lot of interest in those snow sports so getting to cheer on Team USA and witness that was incredible.
Continuing tradition

When it comes to brands that scream all things Americana, Ralph Lauren is at the top of the list. When it comes to brands that make American apparel a global powerhouse and worthy of outfitting the greatest athletes the country has to offer, Ralph Lauren IS the list. They have been the official outfitter of the American team since 2008, and they continue to bring the elevation. Biney believes that the team is ready to compete and continue their tradition of dominance as well.
“I am really excited to watch the short track girls and hoping they medal,” she says. “I’ve been able to stay in the loop with their progress the last four years and have a lot of confidence they will medal, so getting to cheer them on and watch from home is amazing.”
A fitting start

We are in the beginning stages of one of the greatest sports runs of all time, with the Olympics and the Super Bowl next weekend, college baseball coming up in February, the World Baseball Classic at the beginning of March, March Madness in the middle of March, and Major League Baseball’s opening day at the end of March. Ralph Lauren is a fitting brand to sport while taking in all three, and the athletes kicking off the ceremonies in Team USA will be decked out with them for another run.
If you want to keep up with Biney, she has been doing well since the end of her Olympic career. “I am currently going to school for nursing, taking my pre-requisites. I am working at a psychiatric unit at the University of Utah. My coworkers are incredible, and being able to help people in their time of need brings me a lot of joy.”
