Parmigiani Fleurier’s newest addition is the stainless steel Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante, available with an Arctic Rose dial, which expands the line accounting for 85% of the company’s total sales. Elapsed minutes are measured by the use of two superimposed minute hands: one regular minute hand and an 18k rose gold rattrapante hand (which advances separately) to measure time in between the regular minute hand.
The minute rattrapante works as a graded dive bezel, but is located on the dial. There are two teardrop-shaped pushers at 8 and 10 o’clock for advancing the rose gold hand in 5 minute and 1 minute increments, respectively. After setting the desired interval, the gold hand counts down until it lines up with the normal minute hand indicating the elapsed time. A rose gold button built into the crown resets the rattrapante hand back to the bottom of the normal minute hand.
This complication was developed based upon the previously introduced Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante from 2022 that utilized superimposed hour hands to provide dual time zones. By expanding existing complications within the Tonda PF architecture, rather than creating new collections, Parmigiani Fleurier has achieved its recent success, while the refined integrated bracelet design has proven versatile enough to accommodate many different functions.
The 40mm stainless steel case measures 10.7 mm in thickness with the traditional hand knurled platinum bezel and teardrop shaped lugs flow into the integrated bracelet. Satin finishing and polishing alternate throughout the case and bracelet to create visual interest. The water resistance is 60 meters due to the sealed construction.
The Arctic Rose dial features a hand-engraved grain d’orge guilloché pattern, or a barley corn texture that is created using engine turned techniques. In addition to three skeletonized rose gold delta-shaped hands, the dial also includes gold index markers, and a rose gold PF logo at the top of the dial, all of which have been hand applied to the dial without disturbing the rhythmic texture of the pattern.
Powering this watch is Calibre PF052, which expands upon Parmigiani’s micro-rotor technology and adds a module for the rattrapante functionality. This caliber beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour and has a 48 hour power reserve. The 22k gold rotor has a guilloché finish that matches the dial treatment.
The Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante in stainless steel with Arctic Rose dial enters the permanent collection at CHF 29,700, through Parmigiani boutiques and authorized retailers.
